I've read both of the books by Dorian Amos, and they're good but not that well written. I'd recommend Call of the Wild by Guy Grieve. It is a great book about starting a life out in the wilderness :)

Both the North Pole and the Yukon are significantly warmer than Toronto this week

I guess the OP can spend a few years up there and then move to Ontario or Quebec....every other province is irrelevant
