Smile Moving To Vancouver, BC

Hi All

Were planning on moving to Vancouver in the next couple of weeks from Edmonton, Alberta.

Can anyone recommend any good areas in or around the city to rent? or rental agencies to use?

Any help would be much appreciated

We can help, but we need more info.

Do you have kids?
Where will you be working? how long a commute do you want?
What kind of amenities do you need nearby?
etc.

Ok great

Well were flexible in terms of locations and was wondering if someone could point us in the right direction in terms of places which are a good commuting distance and reasonable prices?

We don't have kids and just require a 1 bedroom condo/apartment to rent.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

What do you consider a good commuting distance and reasonable price? Many folks commute from Abbotsford to Vancouver (around 75 minutes) and property there is very reasonable by Vancouver standards.

Well we wont have a car initially so anywhere around the city area where we could potentially get on public transport to downtown.

I think given we don't have a car at the moment Abbotsford will be a little too far out.

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

West end. The rents are relatively inexpensive, there's shopping, restaurants and a beach and if you're interested I'm sure there would be lots of rugby on the tv in the local bars.

There's a few links in this thread that may be useful to you:

You could also look on www.padmapper.com to get an idea of prices.

Mission is cheaper and the West Coast Express goes downtown.

+1
If we weren't in Coal Harbour, we'd probably be in the West End (but overlooking Stanley Park or English Bay).

Coal Harbour, West End, Yaletown. Possibly Lonsdale.

A lot will depend on your budget and interests, Downtown can be great fun, but also expensive, what do you like to do for fun? If you like outdoor pursuits you might be happier living out of the city, Happy to suggest a few places if you can give us a little more background

Some great responses thanks guys.

So the West End is the best bet, what price range would be considered reasonable for this area for a 1 bedroom condo/apartment?

I'm not sure what kind of prices we would be talking per month for a place in this area?

Many Thanks

Mark

Reasonable is per your tastes but I've seen prices circa 1200 for a 1 bedder in the WE. Craigslist, Padmapper are good sites to take a look. Best of luck

Use the link provided in my post above for padmapper - it will tell you the average price for the area and whether the property is above or below that figure.
