Hi Widdy,
welcome to the forum. Vancouver is a wide area - lots to recommend and your choice should be wide open as there is a shortage of trades people. We've helped a few ourselves with finding homes. Popular areas to consider would be Port Moody, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, North Vancouver. Chances are that Lee will be travelling from site to site so bear that in mind when you are looking around - the travel can be tough.

I have put together a few pages on different areas and on commuting that you might find a help. http://www.relocation2bc.com/greater-vancouver.htm has general info and links from there.

Warmly,

Frank

Hi,
Welcome, there are 2 websites which you could take a look ie the carpenters union and the job bank. www.bccarpentersunion.com and www.jobbank.gc.ca. Richmond is hot and sunny during the summer,
lots of outdoors activities , go the farms to pick fresh berries , walking/biking along the sea dykes and to Steveston, the fishing port for fish and chips ,the
restaurants there are superb.Listening to jazz band at the pier.
You could buy fresh pacific salmons and sea foods from the fishing boats.

Vancouver Island is another nice place to live. The Island wine tours are gaining popularity, the wines are different from Okanagan's due to the differance in climate and the species of the grapes. It has the same latitude with Bordeaux, France .Just can't wait for summer to arrive.
Good luck with your job search

Agreed that Relocate2BC is a very helpful website for those coming to our province. You'll find Frank very knowledgeable about the Lower Mainland.

Construction trades are in huge demand in BC (as well as other provinces) and your hubby should have no problem in obtaining work. If you haven't already, look into the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) as you may find it very helpful.

Cheers

Oggy

According to Stat Canada, people in Richmond have the greatest life
expectancy in Canada. www.richmond.ca/discover/health.htm
A co worker lives in Richmond and she loves it there.Did not hear
of any horrendous news about the schools. Just avoid living in the city area
which is too near to the Airport and the casino.

Good shopping centers Western and Oriental styles.
In the city, it is like a little oriental town, there are Aberdeen mall and Yao Han center.
During the summer, there is a night market where they sell cheap
goods and usually frequented by police to check for counterfeit products.
You could get the latest DVD movies very cheap
Hope that helps and the prospect of you getting a job here is good.
Just make sure that the employer is not too laid back and delay things,
We are different from the Albertans.
