Default Moving to Toronto in May.

This forum was reccommended to us, so thought I would check it out.

Me and my friend are moving to Toronto this May, initially with a temp work visa. Were going to transfer from our current UK companies. Just wanted to chat to other people that have made the move, and wondered what the area were moving to is like.

Were moving to an apartment near Danforth Ave, Toronto, and wondered if anyone knows about the area?

Thanks in advance, as you can imagine it is an exciting time, and nerv racking!!

This is a fab forum; you can look up most information you'll need from job hunting advice (unnecessary for you, kudos ) to where to go to catch some football if, like me, you're totally bewildered by hockey.

I'm sitting in Toronto atm but way west of you nr Dufferin. All I know about East York is it's near The Beach (or beaches, you'll soon find out what I mean) which is a pretty sweet place to kill time in the summer.

Someone will be along shortly to assist properly no doubt..

Do you know what part of "The Danforth" (as they call it here) you'll be moving to? It covers quiet a big area some of it really nice some of it crappy (like where I live) Mind you even where I am it's only a short bus ride to the beach which is lovely and May will be a nice time of year weather wise.

Thanks for your reply Elaine! We are moving to Bater avenue, which is not far from the danfoth area, do you know it? I wondered also, whether that area has lots of things to do, and walk to (like bars, restaurants, supermarkets etc)

Thanks again!

Hi again

I don't know Bater Avenue specifically but from a quick look at a map
http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&tab=wl you'll be in a pretty good area.

Around Danforth and Broadview is know as "greek town" where there are lots of good restaurants etc. this link has some useful information http://www.greektowntoronto.com/

You can walk to all kinds of stuff from there. Allen's (south side of Danforth just west of Broadview) is about ten minutes away and has Fuller's ESB on tap. You can also bicycle downtown using only bike paths through parks.
Beware the Riverdale swimming pool, it's near and a nice facility which attracts a mainly gay male crowd.

I am indebted to my child for my knowledge of that pool. Working there as a lifeguard she was frequently required to speak to men about "inappropriate costume". "They all think they're so big, but really it's just that their Speedos are tiny".

The area has a lot going for it, but theer are some rogh spots.

You will find it very easy to go everywhere by Transit, and its' main reputation comes from Greek Town, although Riverdale is right there.

You are close to the Ravines, great for long walks or biking.
