You were not wrong, but it's not essential, if you have a certificate to say you're bringing them from a rabies-free country. However, it is never-the-less a good idea to get it done, as they will need it here!

The Food inspection agency also says you don't need to wait and get the bloodwork done, nor have a specific period after the shot before you can bring them over.

This thread is actually quite helpful to me as well. It's 1 year that we've owned our young cat here and if we end up moving back to Canada in the Spring 2008 (my visa expires then),it's comforting to know it will be a simpler process to bring her along with us

Look at my previous posts if you want to know the down side of taking pets. :scared: We came over in October and I will not be recommending Zoom to take pets and be aware that there is no pet reception at Vancouver. Don't know about other airports. I wish you a safe and happy trip.

If arranging yourself - how easy was/is it?

We have our beautiful Dobermann to take with us & 3 cats, we have had people say that they are surprised we are taking them with us & thought we would re-home them before going - "NO WAY", they are part of the family & they most definitely come with us

Cheers, Arris
Hi
We came with our dog, air transat were brilliant,as were customs at vancouver, our dog arrived clean and happy.
We went down the road of a pet passport for him on the theory that, what if canada went wrong for us,and we had to return to the UK, we wouldn't want to leave our pet in quarantine for months in the UK.
We didn't need an export certificate either.
We saved lots of money doing it ourselves.
When air transat saw us at gatwick on check in,they sent us all down thro' the express check in.
cheers
Jerry

Brought our aged feline....she's a much loved part of the family and couldn't be left. Our vet explained that she would probably be more stressed if we re-homed her - she may never get over it, but at least taking her she'd would have us when she arrived. Now several years on, she's fine....going deaf and losing teeth...but aren't we all! The vet recommended FELIWAY which we sprayed into her carrier, and then around her new home. Can't remember the cost - around 20quid - but well worth it. Don't kid yourself - it will be a stressful time for all concerned, but well worth it
