Default Moving our stuff advise

Hi

Writing this post for the MRS. We are moving on the 15th Oct and want to only take bits and bats to canada. Basically want to take pictures, photo albums and books

Now, advice needed, UPS are wanting £243 for 3 box's at 20kg each anyone know about beating that?

Any advice you have about your moving would be great

Cheers

Phil

Phil,

Is that Air / Sea Freight ? Door to Door / Door to Port, Are local taxes additional etc etc ?

No offence buit you sound completely clueless, we did to shipping is a potential mindfield and I heard of many people being ripped off.

We used these guys who were excellent, stuck to their prices, delivered quickly and smoothly and would recommend them no problem.

We also only wanted to ship a few personal items - mostly books. In the end we went with Excess International Movers ( www.excess-baggage.com ). They delivered door to door and packed everything for us. The quote they gave was so cheap that we decided to ship more (and glad we did -- towels, kitchenware, clothes (to lighten the suitcases), more books, blankets, etc.) It went by sea and cost £472 for 36 cubic feet (11 boxes). They were extremely helpful (lots of e-mails back and forth to reassure us) and handled everything. We were also able to track the shipment via the web so we knew what ship it was on, where the ship was, when it was unloaded, where it was stored and when it was being delivered. They organised date and time for delivery and it was there 15 minutes early. All the boxes arrived intact with all our goods (including dishes) safe and sound. Our things arrived 6 weeks after they were sent.

I assume UPS is door to door, airfreight (as the quote was by weight and not by volume). The advantage of that is that you should have your belongings faster. I don't know if they'll store your boxes or if you've somewhere for them to be delivered to already organised. UPS, I believe, also has a tracking system - we found that really helpful. Excess International also has an airfreight system, but I don't know anything about it. We were recommended (by someone on this site I think) to get a few quotes as they can vary in cost and service quite a bit.

Best of luck with your move,
We're really enjoying our summer here
