Talking Moving to Halifax, NS

Hi there,

My husband Philip and I are moving, with our 3 young children to halifax in the next few months. We are originally from the UK, Bristol-ish, but have lived for the last 4 years in New Zealand. We both work in healthcare, he is an EEG tech and I am a midwife/nurse.

Our time in New Zealand hasnt been that easy, we have not found living here quite what we expected, but it was the first real experience we had not living in the UK. We are glad that we came here first rather than going to Canada then coming here!

Any information regarding Canada and Halifax will be welcomed!! We have googled everything we can think of, but there will be so much more to know! We were caught out in house buying when coming to NZ, so hoping to be very well prepared buying in Canada!

Looking forward to finding out useful info and meeting new people who have made the move of are in the process of doing so.

Thanks!!

Thumbs up Re: Moving to Halifax, NS

Hi there!*

We are a couple with two children leaving for Ns in the summer.
We hope to be moving to just outside Halifax ( hammond plains)
we visited Halifax on our holls in the summer and it was really
exciting place and hope to go again in the spring. It's very scarey
isn't it when youhave the children in toe. Sorry to hear that New Z
didn't work out..i met another lady who came back home with her family,
after just 6 months... all work no play. expensive and no perks.

We want to be near my husbands work (which was found when we were
on holliday, 20 mins from the beaches, on a lake, and possibly thinking
about building our own place, after renting for a while.

I must admit,,, i do have good and bad days about moving away... but over
all we want a better life for the kids.

Hi again. If you take a look at Poppy 2s other posts you will see that she is currently on her way (via a holiday and UK visit). She will get there after Christmas and so should be there to show us all around in the summer.

Hi Poppy 2 just to let you know you are not alone.

My family (Me Wife 3 kids) are moving to Halifax 1st Feb as I have secured a job in Aerospace at the Airport there. We intend to get a house in the Bedford / Fall River Area.

I already know of 4 other couples who have lived in Halifax for 5-7 years who are good friends of ours, I also know that the company that recruited me are recruiting 12+ other couples / individuals from the UK all arriving Early 2008

We land 1st Feb 2008 and have a party planned 2nd Feb 2008 if you are recce ing the area you are very welcome to join us, or any time after that if you wish to chat. We have already recce the area and you have made a good choice of location dependant on your kids ages they will go to school in roughly the same area as ours.

Good Luck

PS Poppy check out these guys they are brilliant and will soon be my next door neighbours www.uk2novascotia.com

The smaller Communities outside of Halifax are known to be much more freindly and welcoming. Halifax itself is experiencing some growth pains and many find it a little bit emotionally colder than it was 20 years ago.

The Real Nova Scotia is still around if you look for it.
