Hi, and welcome to BE.
The best thing to do is have a read of the Job Hunting section of the Wiki, which has loads of useful tips on how to find that all important job offer. Best of luck. |
Re: Moving to Edmonton canada
Heres a couple of links, if you have family ask them to get local papers and check them for jobs too. Generally construction is in need of qualified people but with the slow down in the oil industry that may change.

Re: Moving to Edmonton canada
Whats wrong with Edmonton?
I hate cities, but Edmonton feels more like a town on the south east side. I've never understood why people always moan about Edmonton, there is so much to do in and around Edmonton, cheaper to live than Calgary, wages for me are better in Edmonton than in Calgary. |

Also, the mountains aren't an hour away for some fresh air and they don't have any decent sports teams to watch! |
Re: Moving to Edmonton canada
I don't know if Edmonton is the same but the job market in Calgary has seriously clogged up with all the unemployed oil and gas workers. I don't know how long the glut will last but it's a bloodbath. If it was me, I'd think about going somewhere else than Alberta at least for the next year. If the oil price goes back up above $70 a barrel though, it might suddenly become much easier to get work.

Re: Moving to Edmonton canada
Hi Everyone
Thanks for all your replies and help. The only reason it would be around Edmonton is due to family already in Fort Saskatchewan Alberta. Thanks in advance for any more replies. Stephen |

I've worked in many cities around Canada it earned its name deadmonton well... When we closed the brewery I was glad I never had to go again.. never missed the place! its a frozen wasteland in winter, and dull in summer.... maybe its better than Winterpeg or Regina.. but fall's well short of Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, St john, Vancouver, and even Calgary IMHO too a point... I'd rather be in Moncton or Fredricton than Edmonton.. even Whitehorse is in front (can't comment on Yellowknife or Quebec that's why their left out) |

Re: Moving to Edmonton canada
There was recently this article about how 1 in 8 Edmontonians live in poverty. That's a lot of people.

Re: Moving to Edmonton canada
Edmonton is a decent enough city to live in, although more remote than most people realise until they arrive.
A lot of jobs in Edmonton are in the O&G sector, which has taken a bit of dive of late. I would not count on getting job offers/LMOs, etc easily. |
Re: Moving to Edmonton canada
Thanks for the replies. Does any one know if the situation in the oil and gas sector is getting any better? or the construction sector more to the point. as I am still looking to make the move.
Thanks Stephen |
