Default moving to canada?

Hi just wondered if anyone could be of help at all. We are thinking of moving to canada, a friend suggested Okotoks, and have three boys. Two of the boys lie on the autistic spectrum and wondered if anyone had any information as to what the school system was like there. The eldest will be at college/a-level age (electronics interest). Our friends explained just how lovely Okotoks was and the way of life there which is what we are after for our children, a decent future. Any information would be of great help of us. Thanks

Hi Cin and welcome to the forum.

First things first, you will need to figure out how you will get a visa - it's unlikely that you'll be able to choose where in Canada you want to live as the only route for most people is to find a job so you'll need to go wherever you can find work. I hope that you are one of the minority that can apply for Permanent Residency before you go and therefore choose where you want to live but just in case, here is a link which will help explain the various ways to get there........................http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Quick_...an_Immigration What are your occupations?

Then you need to consider whether or not your children being autistic may cause other issues such as being refused PR. I hope not and have no idea whether they need extra care of any sort but again, this Wiki article may help you figure it out.............. http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Medica...an_Immigration There have been lots of threads on the forum from people who are worried about being refused because of an autistic child so do a search (top right) and see what you can dig up. I seem to recall that any kind of assistance needed in school (i.e. teaching assistant) counts towards the $5k limit per year but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Another thing to think about is that if you go via a Temporary Work Permit (as I said, the usual route for most) your children won't be able to work until you get PR which may be a problem for your eldest.

Hope that helps get you started, best of luck.

Hi, thanks for your quick response. My Husband is a felt-roofer (flat bitumen roofing and I am a teaching assistant (for children with s.e.n. and autism). Both my boys have never really had any specialist treatment as such. The eldest is supported in school but does not really need this (once you get the support you do not let it go!) and my other son attends a special school (could easily go to mainstream but would need support to some degree). I will have a look at the links you have provided me, and once again thank you for the information, it has been really helpful. Hope to hear from you again.
