Moving To Canada

I know that these questions have been asked before but just need to clarify them again :
1. How much did everyone pay for their container - reckon I need a 20 foot one to bring all of our stuff excluding electricals.
2. What happens if you want a smaller container for like personal belongings ie clothes and sentimental stuff.
3. Would people reccommend that we bring as much as we can or absolutely nothing.
Things change alot and that is what I have asked these questions.

Ours was a 40 footer stuffed to the rafters, and cost us nothing

Don't know

From our personal experience, and with hindsight, I would bring as little as possible - but this was a long time ago, too; so probably not relevant today.

Where are you going, Edmonton is more expensive to ship to than Toronto due to haulage on arrival in Canada.
If you have less than a 20 ft container worth then you can either hire a part of the container or if only bits and bobs its worth checking out couriers like UPS etc, (do a google search or search this forum)
What you want to bring depends on what stuff you have. Most of our stuff was getting old anyway so there was little point in shipping it. No point in shipping the electrical stuff either. Try and be dispassionate about the costs to ship as compared with the savings to sell/not ship and this may help. Remember that you will need to take mementos so don't be too clinical. Also remember that not everything in Canada is cheaper, we have found that luxury items are more expensive and furniture about the same. Ikea is Ikea everywhere. Check out the Sears and The Brick websites for cost comparisons. Good Luck

The cost includes all the packing at this end and delivery to the house and unpacking at destination.
A point of note is that, whilst we thought that a 20ft container was a standard cost (assuming time of year of shipping, pick up point and destination point we identical) we have learnt that the amount of time it will take to pack everything and the manpower required also has a bearing - obvious really but not something we had ever considered until it was pointed out to us !

I am after a 20ft container from Hertfordshire to Eastern BC in a couple of months and am in the process of getting quotes at the moment. I would be interested to hear if you could help!
Cheers,
Ian.
