Default Moving away from Quebec....

I'm sorry if this question has been asked before but I'm a little worried about my present situation and wanted some opinions....

My background is I'm a PR under the Quebec Skilled Worker route. I got my PR a year ago in October 11. I landed in October, went home to save for 6 months then settled in Montreal at the end of April 2012.

I started working in Montreal from May 2012 until present.

I met someone from Toronto in Montreal a few months ago and we've been having a bit of a long distance relationship. My partner (Canadian citizen) has a really good job and can't speak French. I've been unable to get a good job here (i.e. just earning barely enough to survive) despite being fluent French (my job is 100% in French already)...

A friend gave my CV to a recruitment company, they liked my experience and asked me to come for an interview in Toronto. I got the job and it pays over $20K more than I'm earning now. I start on 15th October. I'm taking the job and will move in with my partner.

My question is, as my Quebec selection certificate is valid until Nov 2013. If I move out of Quebec is this going to affect my status or exchanging my health card etc??

Thanks for any opinions!

Andy

Hi

Firstly, congratulations of your new Job.

Even though you were Quebec Selected, you are still a Permanent Resident of Canada.

You are free to move anywhere you want under the Charter. When you move to Ontario, it will be the same as moving from any other province in Canada.

From what you say, when you landed your intention was to settle in Quebec but your situation has now changed.

That is fine. PRs move in and out of Quebec quite frequently, what your CSQ gives you as a PR is free french classes and cheaper Tuition fees at Quebec Universities, you are not a prisoner.

Thank you so much for your help, I feel a lot better about moving out now.

Once you became a permanent resident, your Quebec selection certificate would have become irrelevant I think... Good luck moving!

I'm in a really similar situation: arrived in Montreal in April with PR and QSC, fluent in French but haven't been able to find a decent job, and have taken a short-term contract that just pays the bills. I don't have to move for a relationship but I'm off to Toronto early next year as the job prospects there seem so much better and I've been interviewing for jobs with double the salary I'm earning here! Add to that reduced income tax in Ontario and staying in Montreal simply isn't an option. I've looked into it and like you, as I have PR, there's no problem with leaving Quebec as permenent residency is what matters. Outside Quebec no-one will even ask to see your QSC; it's your PR card that matters!

Best of luck with your move and new job!

You should be glad about leaving.... the PQ (or whatever they're called) are putting taxes up another 1.75% in 2013. Income tax now 49.97%. Watch the rush....!!!

No problem for you to move out of Quebec. Your PR gives you the right to settle in any province.

As I said before people move in and out of Quebec all the time.

I believe that the current government would not be unhappy with a mass exodus of English speakers from the province, it would make their separation plans easier to achieve, but I do not believe that this will happen.

As has been said in other threads, the PQ is a minority government, they cannot do much without the support of the other parties. They have already had to backtrack on quite a few of their policy announcements for that reason.

Quebec continues to be a great and affordable province to live in, but if you are not a good fit, there are many other provinces to choose from and nothing to force you to stay.
