Hi,
Just wanted to introduce myself. Im Nikki, me OH and our 2 kids (DS is 2 and DD is 1) are moving to Calgary in April. OH has got a job as a bus driver and as much as I am over the moon about going I'm also overwhelmed with the amount left to do!
We aren't taking alot with us so we need to sell the contents of our house and manage to live, we also need to find somewhere to live for when we get there (any help on this is greatly appreciated) and I also need to convince myself that upping sticks with our 2 babies is better than staying in Bristol (this I don't need alot of help on
)
So, if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated! x

I keep being told how well theyre gonna adapt, and I hope they have a better quality of life as they grow over there rather than here.
When are you looking to move?

He's a bus driver here and has been for a few years, he needed to have had experience already to get the job.
Have you looked on the Calgary Transit website? There was a few jobs on there, always worth a look!

Well done on the job offer...great news. April isn't long now, but you'll be fine if you just take it one step at a time.
Have you, or your OH, been in touch with any of the others taking up jobs with Calgary transit? Sometimes helps! You'll get good advice from those living in the area on here I'm sure.
As a mum of young kids, 7 yrs & 21 months - I'll be trying to get involved in local toddlers group where I'm planning to live and school sctivities to get to know the other 'moms'.
Just wondering, do you need to sell everything, or have you priced shipping any of your stuff? As previous posters have mentioned, sometimes it seems alot, but it can cost a fortune to replace everything when you get there, esp, when you are finding your feet.
Best of luck with the move!

Hi Nikki and co,
Well done to your OH on getting the job. We can put you in touch with another of the Calgary Transit UK bus driver recruits who has recently arrived here with her two boys. Maybe a little sharing of experiences might help. We can also connect you with a whole bunch of others who are in various stages of moving across, all with young families.
Can also help with a number of suggestions on accommodation for when you first arrive if you left click on our user name (Getting There - you'll see it at the left hand side of this post) and select the option to send us an email.
Kind regards,
Eamonn & Janet.

There was a forum set up for CT employees and their families but it doesn't work anymore, so any contacts would be greatly appreciated, would be good to hear an unbiased view of what they are really like etc.
I'll definately email you about accomodation... just wait til the kids are in bed! x

Congratulations on the job, and welcome to another Bristolian! I know nothing about Calgary, I live in the lower mainland of BC, but lots of posters on here live there so I'm sure you'll get lots of info before you land.

I only know Calgary from what Ive seen on the net or what Ive been told by other people. But I know its different from dreary old Bristol! Now that it's so close I can't wait to leave.
Bristol has just had its worst snow for 18 years and it was horrendous! The grit is in short supply so the motorways have been like ice rinks (speed restrictions of 15mph on the M32)... and you know what it wasn't even a foot deep, from what Ive seen of Calgary weather we've had a flurry in comparison.

Hi fellow Bbristolian, we moved to Calgary from Weston Super Mare back in 2005. If you are looking for somewhere to stay when you land PM me and I will give you some details.
Take care,
Take care,
