Default Moving to Alberta

Hello,

I just found this message board today and it has already given me a load of useful information - thanks to everyone.

We are moving to Whitecourt near Edmonton in October 2007. I have a job offer from an Aviation Company working in the 'Oil Patch', so I am waiting for a TW visa. My wife will be coming as well and she is an elementary school teacher. She will also be applying for a TW visa.

Thanks again for supplying a load of useful info, with loads more to plunder, I hope!

Hi Stuart

Welcome to the madness of BE.

Will be in Alberta for good next month - but much further south than you are in Lethbridge.

Good luck with your WP etc

Hello and Welcome

Not long to go for you, how exciting.
I'm sure you will have plenty to do before then, and I am also sure you will find prety much all the help you need, and some you didn't know you needed right here on BE. Make sure you read the WIKKI and search previous threads as there is sooo much info to be had. Then, if they have'nt gone completely barking, there's all those who have been there done that.

One word of warning - this is addictive!!!

Wishing you best of luck.
Rob.

My wife (a nurse) spoke to Capital Health in Edmonton who suggested she apply for her Alberta Nursing Licence and then get back to them. Licence took 4 months and a job offer followed immediately, we then applied for work permits and had medicals 3 weeks ago so should have paperwork through imminently - we hope to fly out on or about the 23rd August as High School starts 4th Sept. for our 15 year old daughter.

Hi Stuart - we drove through Whitecourt a few weeks ago whilst on a camping trip to Fort Assiniboine. Saw our first bear! It's lovely countryside around there - we were quite taken with it - and will definitely go back later in the summer.

Hi Welcome to BE Stuart

Out of interest, is your wife going to apply to work as an elementary teacher when you get to Alberta or will she do something else to begin with? I had been under the impression that it is quite difficult to get straight into teaching when you first get there. I was a primary school teacher here and would like to go back into it at some point, but thought I will have to do some retraining etc once we get PR (we are going out on work permits too initially)

Thanks Lisa,

My wife will be applying to convert her credentials when we get there and will be looking for work after that. Whether she will be allowed to get straight into it I do not know but that remains to be seen. I will report as and when, although this answer is probably on the boards somewhere.

Regards, Stuart.

Where abouts in Wales are you? We moved from Marshfield (between Cardiff and Newport) last year and are loving every minute of it here! What line of work are you looking for?
