Moved: Cat & Dog to Canada?
#1
Hi everyone.I have been researching a little on taking your cat and dog with you to Canada and found some very expensive websites an companies offering their services.
Defra say as long as you have all documents ie, rabies vaccination, tick and tapeworm and export and the correct procedure for crates and cages there are no charges for exporting cats, dogs. The airline (airtransat), state they charge £125 each way for the flights per animal.
If so why do these export companies charge such prices??
I may be wrong here , so advice would be graetly recieved!

Well, lady haye and other companies seem to charge you loads of money for keeping your pet in a pet hotel for a night before transport and arranging the documents needed. And several here have said that you don't need anything else than a fit for travel document. So what essentially might cost you £200 will cost you £600 using an agent.
A cattery might cost you £10 for a night, as you know.
Edited to add. Guess you havent checked out the wiki yet but if you did you'd find this

Thanks yyzlover,
Yeah checked out wiki and it confirmed that you dont need to pay these companies just do it your self. Save £££££s. Its always best I think to hear it from other people because sometimes it dosent actually register properly because theres loads of info your trying to take in. The ole grey matter just gets bogged with so many questions running around.
Cheers.

I have 3 cats. One we don't think will get the fit for flight document as she has a problem with her bowels and have been told her life expectancy won't be as long as normal cats. Still, she's about 9 now and was diagnosed about 3 years ago. She looks obese but isn't. It's her swollen bowels. She's the one who HATES being out doors and loves the warmth, comfort and security of 4 walls.
Another is born on farm and never lived in an apartment. I think she could be trained to cope with the confinement but am not convinced. I'm probably going to leave her here at the farm with my parents.
The third is the oldest and have been both farm cat and city cat. She'd be fine and will come with me. I bottle fed her when she was a baby.
Then I have two horses. One will stay the other will go with me. I can't have kids so my animals are my kids. But you never know, I might still bring both of them, if I'm rich and can afford it.... In my dreams.

contact Air Canada as they accept pets asexcess baggage still. We are paying £124 to take our cocker spaniel with us on the same flight and we check him in with our bags!!
Air Canada require a rabies jab and a fit to fly letter from the vet. You do not need a blood test to be done after the rabies jab.
Hope this helps,
Jay
