Do you guy's happen to know if we can drive on a UK or international licence when we finally land? if not, do we have a time that we can drive on our UK licence before taking the test
, and if so, how long.
Now I expect to have to take my test again (OMG) but can you buy a car and insure it without a Canadian licence

Hi
You have 90 days in BC for new residents to get a BC license. m Enusre that you get a letter from your insurance company, not the broker, showing the number of claim free years of driving, if you want the discount on the insurance.

Hi, yes you can buy a car without a Canadian licence, you then get 90 days to drive around and practice before you have to take a test

Hi, 90 days, and yes you can buy a car, etc.
I bought a car and got insurance back in July when i landed, and just took my BC test on Monday (and passed - phew!)
The thread on passed BC driving test has lots of good tips on it.

Hi Polar Bear
As confirmed above, if you are arriving as a PR, then you have 90 days to get your BC DL. FYI for others....If you are a visitor to the province, you would be able to drive on your UK DL for 6 months. Arriving with a work permit, you would be required to do the testing in 90 days, as you would be deemed as resident. With a student visa, you don't have to do the testing, providing you are in full time attendance.
An International DL is only seen as a translation of the licence you currently hold. Without a current/valid DL, it doesn't allow you to operate a vehicle outside of the 90 day, or applicable requirements.
When you take testing in BC, you will take a Knowledge Test first and upon successful completion, you take the driving exam. Once you've passed the exam with flying colours, you will have your UK DL returned to you, and your new shiny BC DL will arrive in the mail shortly thereafter.
