Your feelings re leaving your parents are entirely normal. I had the same with my Mum and Jan with her Mum and Dad (who, incidentally, arrive here tomorrow for their second visit since we moved 11 months ago!...IF a parental visit is a possibility in your case, that can really help). We get on the phone frequently to our families, use instant messaging with those of them familiar with the technology, webcams, Facebook and our blog (link below) - anything that helps our families to connect with and feel part of what we are doing here. It does help. It would be a lie to say that you still don't get periods where you miss folk back home and it can make you quite upset at times - but it's all part of the journey. We wouldn't give up this fantastic life experience to ameliorate occasional days when the absence gets you down...and our families would batter us senseless if we did!

Hope it goes great for you.
Kind regards,
Eamonn & Janet.

Hi Janine,
You are definately not alone, like you I emigrated with my husband and 2 children and whilst I was so excited (& apprehensive) in the last few weeks before we left, I was also very scared of the unknown. That was without the feeling of guilt that I was taking the grandchildren away from our respective parents. The first few weeks were up and down for me, however, I was very lucky that our boys settled immediately. It is very natural to go through every emotion and I can truly say having been here almost 3 years, this is home and we do not regret the move, it was worth all the pain! Good luck and enjoy your last few weeks of UK life! Whereabouts are you off to once you land?

Hi Helen, thanks for the advice. You had the same feelings I have now especially leaving my parents and taking their only grandchildren away.It is hard to do and I seem fine until I actually see my parents!! My husband leaves next Saturday and then I move in with my parents for 3 weeks till we go on the 24th October. We are moving to Oakville Ontario which I have heard is a lovely place to live,i know there will be plenty of opportunities for the girls out there.

we're hopefully moving out next spring, and i go through those range of emotions everyday! I have my parents 5 mins away and two sisters in the same village! To add to that they both have kids the same age as mine, 6 3 and 2!! But i am determined to go through with the move,as i know ultimately it will be fantastic and the best for us as a family! Good luck!

Hi Janine,
PM me if you like, I am not a million miles from Oakville when you arrive. Once you get sorted in your accommodation and get over the running around in the first few weeks, we can chat!
Happy packing, it'll be worth it!

Hi Janine
Good luck with your move and welcome in advance to Oakville, we have been here for just over a year and just love it, I have a 13 year old daughter and older sons who after a few initial wobbles have made lots of new friends and settled in nicely.
Another offer for a chat once you are settled send me a PM.

Hubby arrived in Toronto last night and got lost driving back to Oakville, ended up on the wrong road,East instead of West I think !!! Anyway I got a phone call informing me of this at 4 in the morning but it was good to hear he had arrived safely. We fly out 24th October so hopefully he will know his way round by then,I know he has found Walmart!!

Hiya, everyone on this forum has gone through what your going through, and it is hard, but well worth it
Im leaving in 4 weeks, we made the move last year but came back when our oldest son was totaly homesick and depressed
He has moved into a place with his girlfriend now and we were left thinking....why did we come back???
So, we,re away again on the 26th October, and its no easier the second time round. One minute im excited, the next i have doubts and then i spend the day with my sister and her kids and get really upset
I just know its all going to be worth it though, for the 6 months we were there, i loved how friendly people were and how happy my 2 younger kids were.
We,re going to Calgary, so i cant comment on Ontario, but any help i can offer in the next few weeks feel free to pm me
Mandi xx
