We will be having the shipping folk round later this week to give a quote for the 'Big Move'. Just wondering what questions we should be asking. Any companies to avoid?
Thanks Susan.

Insurance is always a question though. I don't think they will pay out anything
on PBO boxs and probably won't pay out at all unless the whole container is on the bottom of the ocean. We therefore valued and insured on the lowside, just enough to cover cost of shipping and start up.
When we cleared customs in Halifax, we were also sent, with our agent, to The Canadian Food Inspection Agency in Dartmouth. We saw a most unpleasant young chap there who had gone through our packing list and circled all items of interest to him. This included anything food related, bicycles, all garden related items and anything else he felt like being snotty about. (this cost an additional C$40.00, payable to Cdn Govt)
He also arranged for a CFIA official to come to our house on delivery day to inspect all the highlighted items. Nothing untoward was found as all dirt had been pressure washed prior to packing and all food items were canned or dry packets. It was just another nusance on a day that we didn't need.
The unloading went well until the driver asked me if I would employ these people as they were on day release from the local jail. Never did know if he was joking or not. They were a great bunch of guys though, and worked hard.
