Money Transfer
I know this subject has been discussed at length, but I was wondering if anyone has transferred a decent wedge over recently, and who would you recommend. Best rates, service etc.

Re: Money Transfer
We went with Moneycorp as their rates were consistently better than HIFX - very straightforward and money arrived less than 36 hours after leaving our UK account. Used them twice - each time was the same - hassle free

Very happy with HIFX, very quick, excellent on the phone and no fees.

I'm planning to use Hifx, and they seem to be trustworthy and are frequently reccomended on this site.

Re: Money Transfer
We had used HIFX in the past and were very pleased with them.
We sold our house in the UK in December and needed to transfer quite a large amount (more than we had ever had anyway ).
I had rung our bank here in Canada (RBC) and they had given a great rate...basically it was very close rate that the BBC was showing on screen.
I then checked back with HIFX and was told that they couldn't get close to that rate, and was even questioned if I had actually been given that rate.
HIFX's advise was to grab the banks rate with both hands!!!
We finally changed our money last week and got 2.268. The rate has typically gone up since then!!!
Good luck

Re: Money Transfer
For those of you that used HIFX (or any other company to be honest), can you tell me if the amount you see on their web pages is what you actually get? I know HIFX technically has no extra fees - presumably because their costs are built in - but if I put, for example, £100,000 in their little conversion table on their website - would I physically get what they say - or are their differences once you get down to the nitty gritty ?! Thanks

Re: Money Transfer
The prices shown are "inter bank" exchange rates and are not the rates that you will be offered by HiFX. Your rate will be determined by the amount of currency that you are buying. Please speak with an HiFX dealer or your consultant for a live quotation.
I'm sure the same goes for any of the brokers out there. Keen for your business!

Re: Money Transfer
The rate you get is very near whats advertised on the website address, the rate is changing all the time so you need to contact them to get the exact exchange rate at that time. We changed our money last week with Halo Financial and got 2.262, were very impressed with them, very efficient and everything has gone through smoothly. We also contacted HIFX but both gave the same rate, we chose Halo because they were most on the ball, contacting us each time the rate changed.

Hi and thanks for the replies.
Actually transferred enough for the deposit on our house. We ended up using Nationwide as they gave us 2.2713. Pretty good considering the Royal Bank were only offering 2.19. Just come home to see it's crept above 2.30. Hey ho!!
All NWide charge is a £20 transfer fee. Time was of the essence to sure up our offer on our house, so all things being equal I'm very pleased.

Call them and they will give you a rate for any date in the future you like (bear in mind the actual rate when the day arrives may be higher or lower so both you and HiFX are gambling).

Not looked for a while but if remember correctly what is shown on the screen is for immediate purchase (ie you gave them your wedge within 24hrs).
