Mobile Homes!!
Just wondering if anyone here lives in or has lived in a mobile home, and advice would be appreciated :0
we are thinking of buying for our first home at least to settle into area without the overhead of a big mortgage, and not wasting money on rent for 3-6mths etc Cheers Gaz |

Re: Mobile Homes!!
For the most part, if situated in a Trailer Park, you probably would not own the land and have to pay rent. Otherwise you would require to buy land and place it there, assuming the municipality so permits. That could also require digging a well, installing septic tank and paying for hydro to be connected.
Many people who live in trailers are known, derogatorily, as Trailer Trash. |

Gaz We use them for our employee accommodation and they work fine. A new one is not that inexpensive though for what it is. Often when you buy one, you usually don't own the pad, you have to pay a pad rent. |

Seriously though, i'd think twice about looking to live in one. Think of something like a cross between a council estate and a gypsy caravan site. That's a bit of a generalisation but the ones i've seen pretty much fit the bill. |

I've previously posted perfectly helpful advice to you. If you don't like it, then try another forum. |

If you don't like it, then try another forum. We dont all live in mansions to begin with and some of us did come from council estates and are better people for it. I will fit in fine in Canada dont worry about me. Also I will stay with this forum because the majority of people have been very helpful im happy to say. |
Re: Mobile Homes!!
Here in MB:-
trailer = you can pull it with a family vehicle mobile home = its delivered on a truck. Mobile homes are built just as well (some say better, as they have to withstand moving) as conventional new homes. |

Liverpudlian's have a reputation/stereotype associated with them. That doesn't mean it applies to you (or me), but I'm sure you can distinguish between a personal attack, and a bit of humour, especially when a ;) is added |
Re: Mobile Homes!!
I think, but stand to be corrected, that in BC a trailer is on wheels (even if it needs a semi to tow it) and a manufactured home isn't. |

Re: Mobile Homes!!
I sold a double wide trailer a couple of years ago. As JonboyE noted, it had wheels and a hitch, so the name makes sense.
Oh, and it sat on bricks too ;) Edited to add that the paperwork involved in de-commissioning it from my land and selling it on to another party was a pain in the ass. |

Mobile homes are parked (jacked up and placed on blocks) on a concrete pad in a mobile home park. Manufactured homes are delivered in sections to a home site on the back of a truck and are assembled on a foundation. They do not have a metal frame with wheels and cannot be towed. |

A friend of mine, lived in one up until last year.He sold it because he didn't own the land it was on,just rented the plot(I think). The interiors on most are just as nice as a normal house, some even have basements. Also on the plus side, normal Canadians won't look down their nose,or refer to you as trash. That is reserved for tossers on BE,who have issues,or are just plain ignorant:thumbup: |

Words eh, lovely.;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caravan_(travellers) Caravan (travellers) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Camel Caravan in Somalia A caravan (Persian: کاروان) is a group of people traveling together, often on a trade expedition. Caravans were used mainly in desert areas and throughout the Silk Road, where traveling in groups aided in defense against bandits as well as helped to improve economies of scale in trade. One example is a camel train. |
Re: Mobile Homes!!
Never got the appeal of caravanning in England. You spend 10 grand on one, you get to use it two to three weeks of the year and are restricted to horrible caravan sites. The rest of the year it sits there depreciating and blocking your driveway.

On my move to Canada i hope I dont find people are as inconsiderate and dumb as you lot Hi Gaz In the states they are called trailer homes and yes there are singles and double wides. But ... there is an alternative which is much more attractive cost wise, appearance wise and living wise and that would be manufactured homes. The new manufactured homes are great and can be placed on either basement foundations or just foundations. Their insulation is wonderful and quite the thing you will need for winter and summers in Canada. Check out the web for them and ask your realtor about them as well. |

That is what they are called here in the states and as I said in an earlier post, they are excellent for good insulation and are quite attractive. |

Technically I suppose that if the home has (or had) wheels and could be moved around on those wheels then its a Mobile Home. If it comes on the back of a truck (in one or more pieces) and is put into place by a crane (or similar) then its a manufactured home. |
