Mince Pies in Tdot
I know its early, but am thinking of having an open house to meet the neighbours around Christmas time.
Mince pies or mincemeat - where can I get either in Tdot?

Almost any Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore and most No Frills will have it. Probably in the baking aisle.

Everywhere has them, I thought I'd escaped their horror. They don't seem to put pastry on top here, they're open like jam tarts, but the evil mince pie fan in this house says they're just fine. *spit*

Loblaws and the associated other brands (No Frills, Your independent etc) also have decent own brand mincemeat if you cant stomach the thought of paying $10 a jar for crosse and blackwell stuff.
Come to think of it Im partial to all the "Farmers Market" branded pies, the apple crumble thing is particularly good. Not home made good, but good for bought pie...

My mum never puts lids on mince pies, or even mint spies. It's a good job that she didn't do the pastry lid thing as her pastry is dire.

Re: Mince Pies in Tdot
Many years ago when our youngest was around three he was well into the mince pies that Mrs_P makes (with tops) then one day a friend was over and saw said son about to eat a mince pie and as a joke said you don't want that one it has a lid on it and you can't see how much there is inside.
Needless to say said son dropped the mince pie right there and then and ever since will not eat mince pies with tops on, he's is now 32.
I have never yet found a commercial mince pie that comes anywhere close to matching Mrs_P's mince pies made from her mom's recipe brought over from England.
If anything is evil about them it would be the commercial ones, Mrs_P's home-made ones are to die for.
