Migrating to Canada
Hello to all,
I am concerned that my qualifications to enter Alberta via the PNP route may never be able to be recognized.
I have been working as a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter in the UK for the past 3 years. Prior to this I was an Army Gun fitter (REME) for 22 years.
Unfortunately I only possess Army Trade Qualifications and whilst I have not had any problems securing employment here in the UK, I feel it may be a difficult task in Canada.
The Red Book that all ex soldiers are issued with officially explains what I can do, and even states that I am C & G, Part 3, 2149 Engineering Maintenance Competences / NVQ Level 3 in Engineering standard.
I was wondering if this could back up my Gunfitter background enough to enable me to find similar employment, (Mechanical Fitter) in Alberta.
I will consult with an employment counselor that has been mentioned in a different thread. I just wondered if I am Unique regarding this situation. I think I probably am.
Some ex REME Armourers may also have been in this situation.

Re: Migrating to Canada
Hi gunfitter,
Your qualifications will never be converted but they may be recognised towards gaining your quals over here.
Go to www.tradesecrets.gov.ab.ca and you will find on there the equivalent qualifications / profession to yours.
Now
You will have to resit an exam in this relavant field and prove the work experience to them by way of letters from former employers totalling however many hours verification you need.
This way you then have your Canadian qualification in this field, so all is not lost.
