Smile Meeting new people outside of work.

Hey Guys!

I've been here in Toronto since last september (7 months or so) and I'm still finding it hard to meet new people. I've made a ton of friends through work and I do socialise with them from time to time, but I've unable to meet new people outside of work.

Is there any one who can suggest a club/event I can attend to meet interesting new people? It would be nice to meet fellow Brits as I haven't come across many since I've been in Toronto.

Many Thanks!!

Steve

I don't mean to pessimistic but unless you've been to school or uni with them or they're family you've got little chance of making good friends. If you're lonely go down your local rub-and-tug and get a brass.

If you drive there are meet-ups in Burlington every now and then in a British style pub.....the last one was November (I think). We're all very pleasant Not sure if another is planned for any time soon (maybe we SHOULD do something soon?). Anyway, newcomers welcome....I was one of them last time and made to feel very welcome. Have since become firm friends with some very lovely people.

You might want to consider volunteering or joining an interest group like amateur theatre, sporting (soccer) etc

I agree with this, it's a bit of a cliche but it does work.

If you are on Facebook there are a few Facebook groups that u could check out first. That's where I have made the majority of my contacts from but I am not there yet but surely I am bound to get on with at least one in 'real life'?

If you are considering Oink's advice, you might be better off buying a dog...gets you fit.... I've started up many conversations through the dog, and you'll probably remain free of communicable diseases.

I just googled brass, I'd never heard it before.
