Default medicals

Can anyone tell me if asthma will affect my application for PNP or PR. I have been provisionally accepted for a Truck Driving job in Saskatoon but didn't have to have a full medical or chest xray (only D4 DVLA medical) because I am going on work visa. I don't want to get out there and find I can't get PNP or PR because of my asthma. Any info will be appreciated.

Hello there,

Asthma i believe doesn't come under one the serious conditions that can make you unqualifiable for PR, they see it as just a minor condition, that is not going to have a drain on the health system.

Best thing to do still, go to one of the appointed doctors by CIC in your area, and have a full medical anyway, and let your physician explain the severity of your condition. I think you should be fine, its your employers that might have a problem with you doing long hauls in that situation.

Post this in the immigration canada forum as well, experts are always at hand to shed light on issues like this.

Good luck

No it doesnt. My friend is here in Canada on a work permit with chronic asthma and she didnt have any problems. I too have asthma, though not as sever as hers, and the doctor at my medical told me it wont pose any problems. To be honest both of us have found a huge difference in our conditions since we have been here and neitehr of us use our inhalers all that much. Could be exactly what you need!!

Thanks for the info. I am only very mildly asthmatic. What you say about moving out there being what I need is probably right, as when we moved from east London 5 years ago I noticed a huge difference (I am now living in Essex). The company I am going to work for know I have asthma as it was on the D4 DVLA medical but wasn't sure how it would affect things in the long run. Now I know it shouldn't be a problem, Thanks again.

You're welcome geoffro , this is what we are here for, some of us have been through this emigration bru ha ha, and am only much obliged to help. I guess you can call me the voice of reason
, The last thing people need like i said, is being fed BS, most people that have been fed this, and didn't do their home, have ended up packing their bags and going home, because things didn't turn out the way they had hoped.

You have to make sure you leave no stone unturned, even apply for any documents you think you might need in the long run, even if they are not asking for it now. Many have taken liberties, and have ended up seeing their application take 4yrs just to get PR.

Good luck geezer

PS: dDon't even start me on those Essex jokes
