Sorry to ask but I have searched and cant remember where I read that we have to take some photocopies? of our medical records from our GP when we arrive in Canada to give to our new GP in Canada. Is this right? If so how much information do we require? If we had to photo copy all of our notes we'd need a suitcase to carry them!!!!! Thanks everyone.

Hi Joan
Me again - we asked for summaries to be printed out - they do this is the UK (well Scotland anyway) routinely when notes are passed between practices. We received our printout on Saturday - a couple of pages for each person and with all major diagnosis, injuries and prescribed medicines. I did ask for a copy of my outpatient notes from a hospital department and was sent these - thought they might be particularly helpful in the future (quite a bundle and only cost £5).
Hope this helps!

Hi Aileen
To my rescue again. Thanks a lot. When Claire went she got print outs of all her past history which was one page. So, I will go and ask for a summary as you have said, and a copy of our prescription drugs. Thanks.

We got copies from the Doctor and also Mr Chookie's hospital records (he has had several operations on his shoulder to correct a problem).
the doctor over here didn't even look at them...

I just registered with a GP - after 3 years wait - they are only interested in dates and types of any previous surgery, any ongoing conditions and meds, results of any pap smears, mammos, PSA tests etc, and, a big and, the bossy nurse was quite annoyed when I couldn't remember what vaccines I had had in the past.
