Medical Cover or Travel Insurance?

Medical Cover or Travel Insurance?
Well, we fly out to Fredericton on 22nd of July still unsure whether we are staying or returning. Having booked one way tickets at the end of last year we had everything planned to make the move but surgery in February threw a spanner in the works. I have still not recovered sufficiently to be completely confident in staying but we decided to keep the one way tickets, land and see what happens.
If the right job (given some physical restrictions) comes up then Lynne and the boys will stay and I will return to the UK to arrange for one of the shipping companies who gave us quotes to empty the house. If the boxes that need to be ticked are not ticked then we will all return for a couple of years until our youngest has finished the GCSE's he is due to start in September. Our view is worst case scenario we have a 3 to 4 weeks recce of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia (still open to both provinces) that will be invaluable should the decision be to wait a couple of years. Best case scenario is we both land jobs and all start a new life.
The thing is, as we have one way tickets we are unsure whether we need travel insurance or Canadian medical cover. I'm not even sure if we can have travel insurance on a one way ticket. Any suggestions?
John

Re: Medical Cover or Travel Insurance?
If my understanding of the topic is correct, you'd need two kinds of insurance, if you wanted to be covered all the time:
x
- Insurance that would cover you for medical emergencies during your one-way journey from the UK to Canada. You can buy this from the Post Office in the UK.
- Insurance that would cover you for medical emergencies once you were in Canada. In most provinces there's a three month waiting period before you're eligible for provincial health care insurance. Here is a list of companies that sell this kind of insurance:
- Canadasure
- ETFS Travel & Healthcare Solutions
- Manulife
- Blue Cross
- Sun Life Financial
- Great West Life
- Telfer International
- The Co-operators
- TIC Travel Insurance
