Exclamation Medical Concerns

Hi everybody. Just logged in for the first time.
We had our 90 day letter on 1st Dec' 06 and decision time is nearly upon us. One concern is that I have a progressive Kidney disease and take medication to keep blood pressure and Cholestorol under control. The disease is very slow and my consultant does not expect to see me again for another 10 years. The drugs cost roughly $825 CAN per year according to various websites.

Now obviously we have to go for medicals soon which will cost us an arm and a leg (Family of 4). Can anyone give me an educated judgement of how my medical condition will be viewed. I assume that if the $20,000 rule over three years applies, we have a good chance; however the fact that the disease is progressive and will cause problems in later life is a serious concern.

Any help would be appreciated

I can't answer this for you in detail, and I'm not sure anyone will be able to.

I can only reassure you that the cholesterol/blood pressure *shouldn't* be a problem as my husband was in the same boat when we came here (unless of course they've changed the rules, this was thirteen years ago). He has had very high blood pressure for many years (genetics), and that did eventually catch up with him causing a heart attack six years ago. I guess that cost the system a fair whack - he had surgery, intensive care and hospital stay of three weeks.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Agree with the others in that you will never get a straight answer on this, all they will quote is the bit about not putting excessive demand on their system blah, blah.
It is a worry if you have to wait all that time only to be refused at medical stage.
My OH was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis halfway through our application and we were concerned it might be an issue but couldn't find any advice that put our minds at complete rest. In the end we got a letter from her consultant saying that her treatment was going well and what drugs she was on etc and this was submitted to the doctor who carried out the medicals and we had no issues. She will have to see a consultant in Canada approx every 3 - 6 months just routinely but our concern was the long term issues often associated with this disease but it obviously wasn't a concern with immigration.
My belief is that if they think you will be ok for the next 10 years then there isn't a big problem it's if you will require immediate and regular treatment/hospitalization/expensive drugs etc then it becomes a problem.
