Exactly. One year, experience. If you love it, try to find a way to stay longer. If you don't, you've spent about 1% of your life on an adventure, and can return to your possibilities back home.

Thanks. I'll only have about 3300 dollars when I arrive, not much for Vancouver is it without a job lined up?

well (to state the obvious) it's more than the minimum - which they say is needed to cover the first 3 months - although people have posted on forums & fb that you can go through that very fast. It'll probably depend a lot on if your attitude is that you want carer/social work work, or if you're happy to take anything that gives you a paycheck.

In that case, I'd say really go for it - BC is amazing (I'm starting there), and worst case scenario it's a year's holiday. You might not be able to work in social work in Canada, but you can be confident of getting another job when you come home - so it's really your last chance for a great opportunity. Enjoy! :)

I think it's fair to say, set your expectations accordingly. Find a job. Any job. Don't expect to find a job as a social worker. If you do, it's a bonus, but don't count on it. You're coming here for a one year working vacation. Enjoy it while you have it! It'll go fast. :)

I arrived with 3000 dollars and didn't get a full time job for three months. I had a couple of weeks temping work before then, and found a room for 400 a month so that all helped. I wasn't scrimping either, I had a good time in those three months, went snowboarding every other weekend and managed to cover Christmas. Totally do-able.

I've been away for two Christmases now. I'm not gonna lie, I'm looking forward to spending this next one at home. However the last two in Vancouver have been really special. I've had two 'orphans' Christmases, where a load of us in the same boat just chipped in for a Christmas meal and had a wicked day. I wouldn't do it forever, but it's good to spend at least one Christmas away I think. :starsmile:
