We are moving from England to Ottawa next month. We have a superking size mattress and base. The mattress is old so we're not going to take it. But we were wondering if the mattress sizes and similar in Canada as in England? There would be no point in taking the base of the bed if the mattress sizes are different and won't fit onto the base, either too big or too small. Thank you

Also IKEA mattress/bed sizes are the same internationally, if that helps in some way.

What makes you think there might not be????
They're in almost every other country!!!!!
Mattresses and beds are different sizes form the UK and Europe.
We have a Danish double bed ......... but it is longer than Canadian mattress size. It is possible to find a long double mattress, but they are always more expensive and NEVER go on sale!
However, you might want to think about the size of bedroom over here .............. a lot of new builds may not have very large bedrooms. We have a house near us, built about 15 years ago, a 6 bedroom 2 storey house built on a small 33' x 120' lot that previously held a single storey 2 bedroom hour.
People don't stay there long because the bedrooms are too small!!
However, almost all bedrooms have built-in closets, so that you do not need a wardrobe, and I also don't know many people who have a dressing table in the bedroom ............. most of us seem to keep make-up and hair needs like blow-driers in the bathroom, especially the master en-suite.

I think compared to the UK the bedrooms would still be large, but I get your point. And blimey to your example!!
We will be renting for a year and then we'll look into buying a house. I don't think we'll look at newbuilds as we'd like a bit of space inside and outside, and as you say, with newbuilds they just try to squeeze as much house into as little space as possible.
Good to know about the wardrobes as well! We have a built in one here and a massive one we won't be taking so all we will have to begin with is a couple of drawers but maybe that will be enough anyway.

I don't think they are, actually. IKEA in the UK sells beds to standard European sizes (which are slightly different from standard UK sizes). But IKEA in Canada sells beds and bedding in standard North American sizes. The Wiki (see Siouxie's links) has a good summary
