Once again i am going around in circles. We were planning on moving to nova scotia but seeing the inlaws are now wanting to move at the same time we cannot as mother in law is a mental health nurse. We have now decided on Manitoba and was hoping there might be someone on here that can point us in the right direction. Cannot get Wiki to work so cant look there. We were looking at Winkler but this appears to be quite religous and we are not! What is Portage la prairie like is this extremley religous, what are the crime rates like, house prices ect. Managed to find the city website but is doesnt really say much. Also what other small city like places would you recommend looking at? Mustnt be too religous, or a dry city!!
Any help would be grately apprecited

Have you not thought of Winnipeg? Big city, lots of culture, (hopefully) more employment prospects than the other, smaller towns in MB...
Check out www.mls.ca or www.point2homes.com for an idea of house prices - or you could PM one of our members, 'MB Realtor', who's a realtor in Winnipeg and I'm sure wouldn't mind chatting to you - he's given me some good info. recently :-)
If you search on Wikipedia for any town you're interested in (or Winnipeg, even!) it normally has most places on its site.
Hope that's helped a bit, although I'm sure I'll have more to say when I get back form our recce next trip!
Anita & Sean :-)

[QUOTE=seanyg;6467195]Hiya, not sure I quite understood why you'd decided against NS, but am pleased to hear you've now decided on MB - we're off there on Monday for our recce :-)
we decided on not going to nova scotia as the mother in law wouldnt be able to work there as they dont recognise her mental health nursing degree but manitoba does. We first looked into manitoba and then changed our minds to ns so glad to be back at manitoba
Good luck with your rekkie trip

Thanks. Another good thing about MB is that it's the only PNP which doesn't require you to have a job offer. If you can get an 'invitation to apply' (ie. y demonstrating your employability, keenness to move there, intentions to settle, etc.) then you can apply via the Strategic Recruitment Initiative, which is what we're doing.
We're handing in our application to the immigration officer on Tuesday, in person...wish us luck!!

I think you should be looking at Brandon, as there is a large Psychiatric hospital there. My sons girlfriend is going there in September to start her training as a psychiatric nurse. I've tried to find an address on the web, but I can't.
I will have a word with her, and try and get some information for you.
Brandon is a nice town, 2 hours drive from Winnipeg.
