The Mac Mini is a nice idea, but there isn't any real expansion space in the case ... but do Mac people ever expand their systems or do they just buy a new one?

I buy a new one. I'm a sucker for the latest shiny thing and I admit it.

The only time you need to upgrade a 'private' Mac is to add memory or a bigger drive and you can do that even on the 'design the case first then jam everything in' Macs. On 'business'' Macs its just the same as a PC, the case is big enough for cards/memory/whetever.

SirT -
Memory problems doesn't surprise me - 'working' Macs always need extra memory and I would bet that even the Apple store was using an 'alternative' supplier for RAM - always found that third party 'bits' were the main cause of failure with new Macs followed by s/f conflicts.

Mike,

I don't think that was the case here, as these Macs only had the factory fitted RAM. We had purcahsed extra, but none of it had been fitted when the failures occurred. So it would look like either a bad batch, or damage in transit/warehouse etc.

Hi Simon
Someone will cop one in the neck for something like that happening - QC must have been asleep when that batch when through.
