Re: Luggage when you land?
We Landed in Toronto in April 08.
We showed our passport, in the line as everyone else, and showed our forms for Landing, we were then shown to another room full of desks with imigration officers. The forms took about 30mins (4 of us) we then went through to baggage reclaim and collected our luggage from the carousel. When leaving with our luggage the customs officer asked if we were landing and checked our luggage and asked for our goods to follow list it was stamped and we left the airport. Everyone was very friendly and we got many Welcome to Canada's.

Re: Luggage when you land?
Arrived in Toronto in January. Landed, walked to passport control, sent thru to immigration, all done and dusted, collected luggage, walked to customs, chatted up very nice customs man, realised I didn't have our Canadian postcode on us so customs man escorted me through to meet my parents who provided the details, back to customs, crazy man tried to light up a cigarette in the customs area and was detained by security, forms stamped no problem, all done!
Don't worry, I was worrying muchly beforehand but it all went smoothly. Just remember to be polite and have all the paperwork you might conceivably need on you.

I take it that you do not need to list every bit of clothing that you bring. Am planning just to bring a couple of suitcases on a WP.
Also paperwork, passport and letter authorising WP is all you need or is there other documents that they require?

Re: Luggage when you land?
Someone told me that all you need is the shipping document from the removal company, that lists the number of boxes, not all the items by item.
Can anyone confirm please?

Hi Jacq, you don't need to itemise everything...you can write 1 box of books, 2 boxes of shoes, 3 boxes of knickers..(no wait, thats probably only me) Don't stress too much about them, just make sure you list all the electrical stuff your bringing and put the serial numbers or each item down...thats the only tricky thing...oh and packing the boxes

Hi again all,
Just a quick one to say that FlirtyKnickers was right - you go through immigration, get your luggage and them through customs.
Only problem was that our luggage was going round and round on it's own on the carousel and we just managed to grab it before it was taken off for storage!
The "Welcome to Canada" does bring on the outburst of tears though

Not true Mr Cassidy, we landed in Dec, went to immigration, had a chat with the officer, collected our goodie bag plus pen, went along to collect our luggage, went through customs, handed over our lists, had a chat and a little giggle with the officer and that was that... The End

The pilot flies near to Toronto, then he slows the plane down and it loses altitude. You feel a bump and you've landed. Hopefully on a runway.
Then you go to passport control, tell them that you are a new immigrant, get sent to the immigration office, then collect your luggage, then go through customs, then ... that's it.
