Default Luggage allowance

Hi can anyone advise as to when we are going out on a twp are you still allowed normal luggage allowance of say 1 case each or because you are going over to live are you allowed more? is it just certain airlines that allow more? any experiences would be appreciated

I don't think they make any special allowances, you get the standard allowance and any extra you pay for..... You could try your luck, but it would be only luck of the draw on the day....

20kg is the norm, depending on the carrier, for luggage in the hold and maybe 5kg for hand luggage + laptop + handbag but the cabin carry on luggage has to be of a certain size, check on the carriers web site.......but some are only 15kg for the hold; always best to check with the airline........i do know of people who have flown with national carriers ie: air canada, british airways etc etc, through emmigration, who have asked the airline if they can take more for free (i know one couple who were allowed to take 30kg each for the hold and the same as above for cabin) and have had success but i'm quessing that's down to the individual airlines and how full the plane is.......aviation fuel is so expensive now that they might not do/allow that anymore.....always worth asking and chancing your arm! it's also not 'that' expensive to pay per extra kg; about £5.....

Oh ok thank you for that i always wondered as you see folk on these australia emigrating programmes and they have a right cartful of luggage and wondered if you were, so can i just take say 2 large case each (me OH and 12 year old son) and jst check them in and pay the extra for them or would i have to ask them in advance?

Some airlines to Aussie have special arrangments for people emigrating there . There is no Canadian equivalent as far as i know. Booking premium seats often gives you more allowance.

Due to some quirk in the pricing system we managed to get Air Canada first class for only about 70UKP more than economy. This gave us about 90kg each I think

When we came over with Zoom we paid an extra £25 per person to upgrade and this gave us 30kg of luggage. You get nice big seats and lots of food and drink.
Hope this helps Samantha

Default Re: Luggage allowance

i hauled my mountain bike over, all broken down and in a special carrying bag.but,in that bag just wasnt my mountain bike, there was everything from shoes, winter boots/clothing etc etc etc.
i paid £40 ish from manchester to calgary then £25 from calgary to saskatoon.
they didnt bother to weigh the bag just took my money.
if you check the airline info pages you will find the state the prices for snowboards, golf, firearms and bikes.buy a bike bag and fill it up!!!!!
it works out cheaper than excess luggage prices.
