A big HI, I'm new here.
My partner and myself are looking to emigrate to east coast Canada, Toronto area primarily as Iv seen there should be work around this area for myself to apply under skilled worker app. Although we have yet to find an employer willing to go through the process.
I have emailed a few recruitment agencies around Toronto and directly a company in Edmonton, far from Toronto I know but nice when I last visited
. 2 recruitment agents have said they will look out for work for me and that they have helped people through the process previously. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any other recruiters as companies that might be able to help find me a job offer that's accepted by the cic in IT? I know I should have done this process about a year ago when I would have qualified to go straight in under IT manager
Or if anyone here is looking for a SharePoint developer/manager?
Thanks

Hi there, and welcome to the forum.
Just checking, but presumably you are aware that it's going to be next to impossible to find an employer 'willing to go through the process' for a FSW application - realistically, very few employers are going to wait 18 months or so for you to be able to start work.
Why not go over on a TWP first instead? Still not easy, particularly if your skills aren't as in demand as they once were, but easier and quicker at least. Then you can apply for PR once there and wouldn't need any support or assistance from your employer.
Have a read of the Job Hunting section of the Wiki to understand how the best way to find a job offer in Canada, it's essential reading.
Best of luck.

Hi, thanks I've read through the job seeking part of the wiki now, thankfully didn't need to make any changes to my cv and cover letter although the having to phone employers isn't so appealing. Does a TWP still require a job offer initially to apply or can I apply though?
As for east coast, it's east and proportianally closeish to the coast :s ha.

Toronto is roughly the same distance from the Gulf coast as it is to the south shore of NS by road

Only once you've got the LMO and job offer letter can you then apply for the TWP. Full info on TWP's is also in the Wiki, so have a read of that section too.
Good luck.

I'm a recruiter in Vancouver and also an expat, in my experience it's hard to get Clients to look at candidates if they're A. Not already in Vancouver and/or B. Don't have a work permit. They see it as a difficult process & given they're paying a fee to make their recruitment easier & quicker are often not prepared to take the time to look at candidates from overseas.
If you're not already, my suggestion is to join Linkedin and to be active on it. Join forums relevant to your background and connect with hiring managers that way, I can only speak about Vancouver but the culture I see is more about "who you know" and lots & lots of networking!

Your best bet is to start networking (as others have said), and try to get over on a temporary work permit somehow. If you're not in the country, it's unlikely (in my opinion), that you'll find work. I looked or IT work before arriving in Canada and had no interest. Upon arriving with a valid work permit it was a very different story.
Good luck.

Hey Rubberduckofdeath!
How much easier did you find it once you were physically on the ground?? My wife and I have finally got our iec visas all sorted, after years of planning, and are going out in April.. I'm a digital designer / developer and been trying to talk to agencies from here but it's really difficult.. Couple of leads but I worry not being there yet is what's killing my chances at the moment..
Wish I was there already so could just drop in and see them!!
