Ahem. Leaving aside for a moment my view that golf is a reprehensible activity harming both the participants and innocent members of the public, Canada is not a very good place for it. Canada has winter. People who must play golf would do better to move elsewhere.

We have been lead to bieleve (and I hope its correct)

when you qualify for PR and have "landed" had your PR card sent to a "Canadian" address (which we are told can be a PO box, or a freinds home)
in order to satify the ongoing requirments you must have lived in Canda for 2 out of the 1st 5 years.....

You were told right, but it's 2 years out of every 5 year period, not just the first 5.

My understanding was that once you get PR (times may have changed) that as a PR you are a PR

I think the general rule was that as a PR you always planned to stay in your new found country

It is advisable that if planning to go to Blighty for vacation that you wait 6-months - this will lessen the hassle at the border on return

As a PR pre-Canadian citizeniship (3-year wait) any absence from Canada for a period longer than 6-months (the 180 day rule)

a) you would loose residency (entitlement to social & health care)
b) looked at in your case that you left forever & they the border folks may refuse entry

Nope, PR can be lost if you don't keep up residency requirements, or for other reasons (criminal acts etc). As far as I am aware, that has been the case for a long time.

Again, nope! You can 'land', get PR and then turn around and get on the next plane back to the UK if you wish. It wouldn't cause any problems at the border and doesn't matter as long as you are back in time to stay for 730 days out of every five years. Lots of people on here have to do that, they 'land' and then return to the UK to try and sell a home or tie up loose ends, and don't actually move over for a year or more.

No, there is no 6 month rule. A PR can leave for as long as they like with no penalty (although possibly EI and/or health care, but certainly would not 'loose residency' or PR status) as long as they keep up residency obligations. Could leave Canada for 3 years if you choose, and certainly wouldn't be refused entry unless you've relinquished PR by not being in Canada enough.

Not a massive fan of golf myself, but have played the odd round here and there, fiance occasionally gets a vendor golf day, and I'll tag along. Hey, a free 18 can't be sniffed at.

It does surprise me the number of golf courses that are in Oakville. Obviously the major one is Glen Abbey, but there are at least six I've seen (can't recall all names, but Saw Whet and Deerfield are ones that spring to mind as they are bladdy close to the house)

The neighbors told me that north of Bronte Creek Park, where new houses are being built, used to be a golf course too, so that'd make three within walking/biking distance of the house. It's madness I tell ya!

You may be in a minority reading the Beano on a commuter train in the GTA. I recall on a train in the UK about 10 years ago reading Viz and then switching to the Guardian...got some funny looks from other passengers.
