We are about to take our first steps into rural living (I've always been in walking distance to 'little shops' where I can get basic groceries. We are only going to be minutes from Red Deer, but a in car safety kit and generator will become a necessity (managed to pick up a cheap generator this weekend thanks to black friday). Have not yet investigated internet but we do have cell coverage (we can see the tower
) Going to have to start being a bit more organised with grocery shopping and a bit braver with winter driving - it was a horrible drive back home tonight, but with the snow we can investigate new footprints in the garden, which makes life interesting, I know one of these days I will be peering out the window to see if I can see something and the something will be peering back

Know what you mean about the driving
I've only just got used to driving here and now I have to do it in snow
Look forward to the photos of visitors to your backyard

Used to live in Red Lake, NW Ontario ... at the end of paved road in Ontario's north - rumour had it that if you went beyond the town limits, you'd fall off the edge of the planet! Bears, moose, wildcats, coyotes, etc were regular sights. 250km to go buy a doughnut qualifies as rural livin' for me! Loved living there and only left due to takeover of employer by terrible management out of Thunder Bay.
Now living in the rural outer limits of Ottawa and loving having the city so close, but still have peace, quiet and resident herd of deer in the neighbourhood!

Oh well it's all about adaptation and if it doesn't work for me or for others then... you move on!!!!

Does anybody remember the cult series The Prisoner? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061287/
I don't remember it first time round I hasten to add but I've watched it and it reminds me of my life in Yarmouth!
Let me explain...
In the middle of nowhere...
Near the water...
Everybody knows everybody (and everybodies business!!)
Very difficult to escape, maybe there are no big white ball things chasing but I still get that feeling that it's difficult to leave (distance mainly)
People are watching...
Life is on hold until you go to the city and then it's back on hold when you get back!!!
And to top it all maybe they are not all numbered but there are only about 10 last names in this town, if yours isn't one of them you're an outsider!!!
anyway just wanted to share that feeling, you might all think I'm crazy...
