- twenty, very loud, adverts (when I used to leave the radio on one station, I could usually drive home from work without hearing anything but adverts)
- ten cancon records (songs without merit that are played because the government requires it, Shania Twain, Celine Dion and so on)
- two records in tight tie-ins, eg there's a show called Canadian Idol, the company that owns the TV station owns the winning artist and radio stations (and newspapers) they hype the winners, and even the losers, relentlessly.
- Stairway to Heaven
- Where were you when the world stopped turning ?
- some very worthy thing on the CBC, lately they've played a lot of songs by ensembles of South African mine workers. Mine workers are not selected for their voices.
Note that no song is played from begining to end, there's always an overt advertisement or covert political message worked in over one end of it. It is such a joy to hear Radio One, it's relatively high brow and the announcers have an interesting variety of regional accents.
All one can say for Canadian radio is that it's better than Canadian TV.

and for the non suicidal eternal optimist amongst us, if you are in Toronto, 97.3 easy rock is a good station, and if your into rock then edge 102 is a good station. there are lots of stations out there and htey are no different than being back at home

I'm saying that one can get decent radio here now, it's a great advance. Nothing pessimistic about that at that at all.

FYI my original post was a little tongue in cheek, obviously you have had a sense of humour bypass either that or its the time if the month. Either way if you are going to make a personal attack feel free but dont expect me to sit by and take it with out coming back.
As for the majority of radio listeners in the uk agreeing with me, well if they dont why do the Majority of UK radio listeners tune into independent radio stations? And there is NO need for ME to ask them they get asked often enough in audience polls.
