License to drill

I don't know if any of you saw it on tv last night - or indeed care
but the reason I post it is because its a personal thing.
MOH works / has worked with all these guys before although isn't daft enough to go up to the artctic
, and thats the rig that his brother goes up to in January to be a driller. (Goes up every year for the winter season).
For me it was interesting to see what drillers do for a living, but also to appreciate what a lot of the guys in the oil patch do.
I don't know if those in the UK can YouTube it but its definately worth a view due to the fact that this is what keeps Alberta ticking - so when you hear of someone working in the oil patch, its easy to assume "big bucks, gung ho attitude" however they do work very hard in retarded conditions, for long shifts.
Its an eye opener

Dang, I meant to watch that last night. Another Canadian 'Testodocumentary'!
Has anyone been watching 'Ice Pilots NWT' which returns tonight? It's quite entertaining in it's own way.

These programmes are awful, especially that ice truck driving one. It's just truck driving without the hookers. And I'm sorry, but its not my fault you didn't go to university so you have workout outside.

in the name of forum solidarity it might be worth naming and shaming that university. don't think any of us want our kids going there if 'so you have workout outside' is anything to go by !!

The wages these boys are on, they can afford to get their own gym. Inside an' all.

But soft! What sound through yonder cabin window breaks? Ah, 'tis naught but another $1,000-a-day driller weeping softly in his bed at the opportunities denied to him because - <bites knuckles and sobs> - he doesn't have a 2:2 from a provincial polytechnic and twenty grand of student debt.

The old school rig workers are now used to it and put some by each paypacket for when the shut down happens. Its the young kids that see big dollars, and then don't realise spring break comes and you get nowt. That fancy truck doesn't pay for itself.!!!
