No surprises in my vote.!!!! If I could go down the same road again, I would still take it.

This move lifted myself and my hubby from the rut we had got into, gave us a new start, a new focus and we think a better lifestyle. No regrets.

Seeing as you ruled me out so I can't vote - a spouse with a work permit and hubby on a work permit!

I would definately do it again even if they turn round and deny us PR status at this stage (we applied for PR in 2004 and are still waiting) I believe this make life a little more stressful than those of you who came when you got PR status as the buggers could turn round and kick us out.

Would we do it this way again MOST DEFINATELY, although we would prefer to come as PR's to be here at all is worth it, we love it here and would really like to stay please.

Saying that if they say we don't want you here - we would definately NOT go back to UK - don't know where we wold go as Canada has spoilt the rest of the world for us!

YES

As long as I was given Carte Blanche to deport tossers.

Quite. I was giving this thread some thought today and came to much the same conclusion. But, in the spirit of the question, "Let's be honest".....

I have switched countries several times so far (UK-USA-Ca-D-F-Ca) and plan to do so one more time in a few years, but I have never, never moved without pre-arranged employment at a level worth the move.

I get a tad annoyed with some posters on here who regret moving because they miss marmite or "proper" Heinz tomato soup (you do know it's American?), but, on reflection I have sympathy with those folk who are at the back of a 4 year queue to come here and then look for a job. There is no way in hell I'd do that.

Why not stay in the EU, where you have a right to work? Believe me, having to learn a second or third language from scratch is not that hard and in fact is the one thing I'm most pleased with about how things have worked out for me.

Peace and prosperity.

Heinz is a US company, yes! But Heinz soup UK style, is completely different to Heinz soup North American style. Just because some people miss some things from home, does not mean they "regret" the move as a whole - it's quite human to miss things.

The "right" to work, is true both sides of the pond - actually GETTING that work, is whole different ball game, in my opinion.

More power to you with the languages - I would love to be able to master more than two, but for some weird reason I start mixing them up...lol Like the "Swissy-deutche" they speak on the Swiss/German border.

Perhaps, but is this reallly critical?

As I said, I would never have moved without going to a job I thought represented career progress. The right to work does not automatically exist on both sides of the pond for people crossing it. After all that is what most people on here are concerned about.

By the way, is that you in your Avatar? I think I'm in love.

LOL No sorry, its "Eddie" a character from Absolutely Fabulous (UK comedy series), I love the show. She (Eddie) is always saying "Buggery Bollocks", which I have picked up and use all the time now. :o

My daughter says it does look like me when I 'pull that face', though....lol (don't see it myself)

I don't think we would either - but then we had no idea what we were getting into, was a long time ago and we didn't have the same resources available. We had three kids under six and went six months with no work in sight - it was SCARY

All ok in the end though.

I am fluent in German (also French) and had no trouble understanding the lingo whilst in Germany. Same goes for Austria. But trying to understand Swiss-German is something I could never manage. To me it is just as incomprehensible as trying to figure out what the French speaking Haitians are saying.

In answer to the thread topic my response is 'without a doubt and no regrets whatsoever'.

I am, of course, utterly devasted. Although slightly relieved that "buggery bollocks" was not your invention.

I'd be very proud if it was :D

(Jennifer Saunders is your new found idol, then - she's the actress in the pic. Very funny lady)
