Re: Lethbridge Alberta, anyone been there?
Hi
First of all congrats with the LMO we are just starting our application to emigrate to what we consider the nicest warmest and friendliest community going!!! I have been visiting Lethbridge for the past 17 years as I have family and friends out there. There is absolutely everything you could want in this community great facilities, fab schools, good shopping and very close to all of the sights you could ever wish to see. I actually fly out August 4th for two weeks to research job possibilities for my husband who is a Chartered Accountant. We did get the opportunity to go about 12 years ago and with starting a family etc never actually went through with it - how stupid were we  I have seen alot of changes in Lethbridge over the years as there has been quite alot of residential development there particularly on the west side of town near the university. House prices are fabulous a good sized 3 bed detached house with a developed basement is prob around £ 110K - in Manchester there would not be much change out of that for a terraced house!!! Try mls.ca which is multiple listings for houses for sale - really helpful and gives you a good idea of what you are getting for your money. The wind which everyone refers to is the Coollies wind which is a range of hills which surrounds Lethbridge and yes it can be a bit windy but is a "convenient" wind i.e. it cools the summer sun which can get really hot and also when there is a snow fall it tends to just blow the snow away ( snow over there is not as "damp" as british snow). Lethbridge is my very first choice to relocate not only because of my friends and family but also because I feel very safe and secure walking around and my kids feel safe if they are out and about at friends visiting. You can do so much from Lethbridge, go visit :- Banff Waterton National Park Franks Slide ( a town covered by a landslide) Fort McLeod ( RNCMP) Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump(an interprative red indian centre) - Fab Fort Whoop-UP There are man made lakes with beaches within 1/2 drive outside swimming pools, sports hall you name it. THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE !!!!!!! :D Good Luck |

Not at all unusual to get winds of up 120 kph (75 mph) in Lethbridge. My son lived in Lethbridge for four years while attending U of L and although he liked the city he couldn't get away from the wind soon enough. Some people perhaps get used to it some don't I think he was of those who don't.:) Here's a picture of a classic Chinook arch taken from the west side of Calgary. http://www.pbase.com/hangman/image/6...3/original.jpg Cheers Steve |
