Unhappy Leaving Calgary and Going Home!!!

Hi all,

I have logged on using a different user name to protect my identity. We have been in Calgary for a year and have decided to go home!!! A very difficult decision to make. I am protecting our identity as I do not want my employer to be aware of our plans yet! The job has not been what I expected and the Canadians can be difficult to figure out!! Having quite a young family and having experienced the last Winter has also been a factor. We also did not anticipate the cost of living here i.e. food and clothes. Having that said : we did enjoy our life here and it is a wonderful place especially for raising a family. I apologise for the contradictions and the vagueness of this message. Would I recommend it ? Yes- most definitely. We decided to do this for 1 year on a TWP. We did it and are delighted we did. Would we come back? The door will be left ajar and who knows what will happen in the future............!! Once we have finalized our plans I shall be more detailed with the facts.

If any of you are on your way to Calgary we have car, furniture etc. to be sold so feel free to PM me.

Very brave to make that decision and to still be open minded about the future - I'll be talking to hubby later, we may want some of your stuff

The exhorbitant cost of food, lack of choice and dreadful clothes have all been the subject of many a thread on here for years. How could you have missed them?

EEeeeekkkkk! I have never seen so much duct tape (on the inside but it was there in abundance). I didn't particularly like the smell of fuel seeping into the cabin as we taxied either. The 7 hour delay was also rather frustrating.

Oh dear - I'm sure your choice is the right one for you..... We were really really close to going "home" - But will it be any better?

We feel for you, we really do.

You've done way more than so many others...you tried it out. Really sorry that it has not all worked out as you might have hoped but you seem very pragmatic about it all. We know lots of new arrivals to the area so if you didn't mind PM'ing us some details, we might be able to connect you with others with a view to helping you sell belongings.

Really hope the move back goes great for you.

Kind regards,

Eamonn & Janet.

If I understand Barcal correctly, it was only ever the plan for that family to come out on a one-year TWP. They've done that, enjoyed their year, and have decided on balance that it's enough for now. What's not to like about that? Good luck B!

Hi,

We know that feeling, we left cochrane AB,in april09, unfortunately we were scammed and had to return, but we left a beautiful country, some extremely kind people, and most heartbreaking of all taking our two children from the schools they loved and felt safe in.
At present England isn't the most pleasant place to be, and life re-adjusting has not been easy, so not trying to be pessimistic here, just realistic as to what to expect on your return.

Hi we left calgary in oct after only being there for 3 mths due to son and me being homesick and he didnt like it there(he was 14) ,we have been home 7 mths now and have decided to go back when he finishes school,i think we made the right choice coming back as it made me see things diffrent, and i was just home sick.
You just have to do what right for you and your family at the time.

Good luck with everything
Jamie

Blimey Jamie...7 months already...it doesn't seem any time at all since you left here. Best wishes if you do decide to head back here at some point.

Kind regards,

Eamonn & Janet.
