Okay, another random question.
Does anybody know, if/when I immigrate (emmigrate?) to Canada, do canadian immigration laws make any provision for the care of elderly inlaws. ie An inlaw coming to live with you in Canada till their end of days?

Once you are a PR of Canada and have earnt a certain amount from Canadian sources in the year prior to applying, you can apply to sponsor parents for PR - but it's currently a wait time of approximately 5 years which is predicted to rise (possibly to around 13 years) soon due to a reduced number of visas.

I am not sure about in-laws but you can sponsor your parents. So, assuming you are here with your OH she can sponsor them for permanent residence.
It takes a long time.

Harper changed the rules for this - more visa's are now going to China in a kind of gerrymandering by immigration. He also upped the number of estimated immigrants per visa at the same time as visa's were reduced - such that his government still claims to support family reunification.

Hi
Actually it was 219 visas for parents/grandparents in 2009 at London.
There were something like 10 visa's issued to parents in the UK last year.
