Lancaster bomber Ontario
#1
Hi
I have been told that there is a Lancaster Bomber that is still flying and it is possible to go up in her. I believe it is located in Ontario somewhere. Is it at the aircraft museum near Hamilton?
If anyone can give me a bit more information it would be greatly appreciated, as my father in law (ex RAF) would love to go up in her when he next visits.

Further details here at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. www.warplane.com/
Several other (non airworthy) Lancs are in Canada as well.

Thanks for you help everyone. Coincidentally, speaking of Lancasters I went to see the special showing of "The Dambusters" last night and it was great to see it on the big screen

Additionally, for those interested in "old ladies of the skies" Vulcan Bomber XH558 is close to returning to flight after being lovingly restored.

As it 'lives' only 40 minutes from us, we visit regularly and look forward to seeing her airborne again soon.

The Avro Lancaster flown out of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ontario, one of only two airworthy Lancasters in the world, is known as the Mynarski Memorial Lancaster in honour of Pilot Officer Andrew Charles Mynarski [1], and is painted in the markings of his aircraft.

I think this is going to cause a debate of sorts but I saw the original version on TV recently and noted that Guy GIbson's dog's name had been edited out and the codeword for success had been changed to "Gonner". Anyone notice this and have a view?

It is historical fact and should not be changed to please the more politically correct out there
I believe that the new film (currently being made) uses the word "Trigger" instead of "Nigger" and this is a real shame.
I watched this film many times as a kid and never once associated the name Nigger with black people. The same with "Gollywogs" on jam jars, to me it was just a fun character and nothing else.
It will be "ba ba white sheep" next.
Incidentally, in the film (not sure about real life) Guy Gibson's crew were Canadians.

In the digitally enhanced version I watched last night it is exactly as the original and the codeword for breaching the Mohne dam is still "Nigger"

In addition I have often found that words or language deemed to be offensive is often a creation of those who think they know best. An example being the head teacher in a primary school who 'banned' the children's story of the three little pigs because "she said" that Muslim children would be offended (Originally reported in that icon of balance and moderation - The Daily Mail).
In truth, when parents of the Muslim children were asked, they were horrified that someone would pre-empt their reaction. They were not offended, after all, they said, it's just a children's story.

There was one at my local shopping centre a while back. Was that the same one then? The kid went inside for a small donation to something or other.
