Lampshades

OK I know it may seem like a muppet question, but can ceiling lampshades be used in Canada or are the fittings different? I'm not taking light fittings but I have some new lampshades I would like to keep. Or is it not worth the bother of taking them down?

I was wondering about that too. We have bought a house but I have never seen it and OH can't remember if it has lights or not! He went out on his own and bought it so I have only seen photos. :scared: :scared: :scared:

I don't think I've lived in a house that hasn't had ceiling fixtures in the bedrooms and what I would call the front entranceway. (Is that what a reception room is?)
What is frustrating in our present house is the bedroom ceiling lights are in the corner of the room. I'd like to know who thought that was a good idea?

Cheers

We have a lot of ceiling lights, but they are fittings with various types of hard shades.... not quite like the "pendant" lamp from the UK where you could fit more or less any shade I think.
You could bring your shades, but you might not find they fit the fixtures that well....

OK then front hall?

Besides all of that - it's usual here when buying a house to have all light fixtures, floor coverings, window treatments (curtains and hardware), and some appliances included (unless otherwise specified in the offer to purchase). So basically, anything that's 'attached' to the structure stays, unless it's agreed otherwise.
(Unlike Germany, where they take everything - even the kitchen units, as well as the light bulbs!)
