Default Kitchenaid

Hi all,

Has anybody ever shipped and used successfully a UK Kitchenaid Artisan mixer with a step down transformer? I so don't want to have sell it and leave it behind!

Part of the moving experience, is clearing out the old / decluttering, and starting afresh. What is the point of lumping that over with a step down transformer, when you can buy one here that conforms to the power output?

Just pass it onto a mate or family member...even that good neighbour of yours

Or on the shopping channel, which apparently to HID, the extra attachments made it a bargain. It's been used once, by me.

They seem to be a lot cheaper here (my mother marvels at the prices here compared to N.Ireland). Chances are you could sell the UK one second hand and get enough money to cover the new one here.

We had friends that were over for 2 years on exchange with the British Navy. They did this successfully while they were here, used a transformer for the Kitchenaid Mixer.
You'll be fine.

We kept and used lots of tools, a sewing machine and a running machine with transformers. Now we're heading back I'm glad that we did! We bought the transformers online and they were heavy and expensive to ship (from the US I think) but well worth it.

You can get the transformers on Amazon.ca.

Free delivery too if you can wait 1-2 weeks.

They are all best Chinese quality however, wherever you get them from.

KitchenAid stuff is much cheaper here from what I can see. Dollar price less than GBP price to start with...

Transformers are heavy. However, I would not particularly agree that they're big. I've got a 1000w one in the kitchen that sits in a corner and it's hidden by a modestly sized Pure radio. As well as using it for the radio it also powers numerous UK surviving kitchen tools. If it was me, I'd bring it and continue to enjoy it. Yes kitchen electricals here seem to be cheaper than in the UK but they're still not that cheap. Save your pennies - there are loads of other things that will hit your pocket believe me!!

I am a particular fan of the RivingtonPike school of moving philosophy....it was thanks to him that I brought quite as much with me - but I havent regretted it. I have a huge big transformer in the basement that has powered all of my husbands tools for the last year...some were very expensive and are only used occasionally....some oddly enough like the arc welder will run on 240 and 110 with no problem. I too have a nice transformer lurked in the corner of the kitchen that powers all sorts of expensive gadgets that normally hide in the kitchen cupboard for 50 weeks of the year!

I am sure you and your Kitchenaid will be an unbeatable team

Sorry to be a pedant but its a step up transformer you want to convert 110v to 230v. I get fed up of people coming out with "declutter, sell your stuff and buy it again". Its nonsense. I brought my hifi setup with me, there was no way I was getting shut of it. Works perfectly with a step up transformer. The only thing I had to change was the pulley (£5) on the turntable as the frequency of the mains over here is higher (60Hz vs 50Hz) to get the turntable to run at the correct speed. I also brought a Kitchenaid mixer with me.

Hey !

From most forums I've read it seems to be that it may work when you bring a kitchenaid from UK to USA.. or vice versa but due to the power the motor has to work harder. Hence if your using it more than just " occasionally ", chances are it will burn the motor out even with a transformer.

I sold my wife's kitchen aid mixer on ebay after a little over a year's use and it sold for £300. With the upcoming black friday & Christmas sale in USA , she's bought one with a glass bowl for 300$ and having it shipped to my sister's address. The prices in Canada aren't that far off either when you find one on sale.
