Default Kingston On

Hi there, we are going to be moving out to Kingston with the Military early next year!! Are there any places to avoid when looking to purchase a house, rough areas high crime etc>. Also if we live out of town, say 15 - 20 mins is it easy enough to get taxis into town to, get to pubs and clubs?? Many thanks.

There is a stretch of Montreal Street where the prisoners wives/girlfriends/partners live while their beloved is doing time in prison that looks kind of rough. The student 'ghetto' near Queens University isn't the greatest for families with kids.

15 - 20 minutes north of downtown Kingston would get you north of the 401, where the urban limit ends, and you are into well water, septic beds, no public transit but I'm sure a taxi will get you where you want to go if you don't have a car or want to imbibe.

We found the census info on the city of kingston websites invaluable when we moved to Kingston. It is 2001 census info but gives you an idea of profiles.

http://www.cityofkingston.ca/cityhal.../data-2001.asp

You can type any address in to this website below and it will show you the location and so you can see what the house plot is like.

That's a good place to start.

PS Are you British Military? Coming over for a few years?

PM me if you need any more help. We used an ex military realtor when we came here. I can recommend him.

I have kids so I wanted a family friendly neighbourhood. As the poster above said - avoid the student areas around Queen's.

Hi we have a holiday home in seeley's bay about 25 mins north of Kingston where we would ideally like to live!
So can't talk about the daily commute into Kingston, but just wanted to say there are a lot of really nice properties north of Kingston ours is even waterfront www.landolakescarp.com if you want to see some pics.
Neighbours have been really great as have all the contractors/services we have used like septic emptying and oil tank filling - things we have never had to deal with before. Nothing that isnt do-able.
Lovely area wish I could be there all year rounnd!
