Default Yo, Smokey

Hi all,
Thanks for your advice and thoughts - all of you who've posted.

And my apologies for not replying sooner but the truth is, I'm out teaching and training in the old martial-arts 4 times a week - plus, the computer's actually in Josh's bedroom, so if I get home and he's asleep, I don't get the chance to get online! What kind of soft dad am I?!

By the way, Smokey, this emmigration idea is something I DEFINATELY wanna do, and we are gonna following it up - Big-Time! I've contacted a Migration Agent, here in the U.K. They've told me provisionally, that I have the sufficient points to qualify, and they're sending me an official appraisal form. However, they've also said that although I have the points, it all depends on Canada's opinion of my sons' cerebral-palsy, as to whether we'll be accepted or not - but we won't know that until we apply for our permanent-residence-visa.

Dunno if I'm running before I walk, seeing as we haven't even had the opportunity to visit Canada yet - but from everything I've heard, there's no nicer place on Gods' Earth you'd wanna live.

Anyway, keep in touch, take care,

Kev.

Good Luck Kev,

Did you check that the migration agent will be able to deal with cic on your behalf? I was under the impression only canadian registerd lawyers, or CSIC registered consuiltants can act on your behalf, which basically limits the field to canadian citizens.

Nothing wrong with being a soft dad

All the best

Iain

Hi Iain,

This is gonna prove my ignorance - but what's cic? and what's csic registered?

I do know that it's a legit firm.... or at least, I HOPE IT IS!

They said it'll take about 16months for the entire process, and will cost around £3000!!! About $7 - $8000 Canadian!!! A lot of money if you haven't got it laying around.
That reminds me - I MUST check my lottery tickets!

Take care,

Kev.

CIC...citizenship and immigration canada...the folks who issue the visas

CSIC Canadian society of imigration consultants?...recently set up by the canadian gov to monitorand license consultants offering services for monetary compensation.

Recent changes in canadian immiration law mean the CIC will only deal in person with registered members of CSIC (who have to be canadian citizens by law), or members of a canadian provincial law society (who IIRC also have to be canadian residents or citizens). This applies to applications through CHC in London, and everywhere else for that matter. I am not sure if it applies to help preparing an application, but if an individual is going to represent you at a hearing or anything like that, they have to meet the new requirement.

There is a LOT of info regarding this in the immigration forum archive...and probably a lot of spam from the ubertroll Karen Gordon too. Otherwise I believe CSIC and CIC websites will have something to say about it, should be easy to google for.

If I were you I would double check what you are getting for your 3000GBP, and see if they have anything to say about the new law too.

Buyer beware, there are a lot of shysters out there, so give any company a thorough check before handing any money over.

"Keep yer stick on the ice"

Iain
