You were lucky. We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.

Luxury. We used to have to get out of the lake at six o'clock in the morning, clean the lake, eat a handful of 'ot gravel, work twenty hour day at mill for tuppence a month, come home, and Dad would thrash us to sleep with a broken bottle, if we were lucky!

Right.
I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah.

This would be for a family of 4.

UK Mortgage - 570 pounds (4 bed det)
UK Gas & Electric together 119 pounds
Water - 47.5 pounds
Council - Tax 115 pounds
Car Tax - 208 pounds, (per year), and going up soon! (V W Passat)
Food bill average - 80 pounds per week.
Sky TV - 45 pounds

These are just a few of my main living costs in the UK.
Any other advice on living costs in Kamloops would be welcomed.

I am worried that BC may swallow any benefit that I may gain from the UK, in the higher tax rate that this provence has over Alberta, for example.
I find overall that Living in Kamloops is cheaper than Lincolnshire and certainly cheaper than NOttinghamshire.

Some of the hiddedn costs are$3.00 per day parking and free at weekends in the City Center. Never paying for parking when you go out at the weekends. Grocery shopping is generally cheaper if you go to the right places (Not Canadian Superstore). Clothing, house hold items generally cheaper, ice skating - 2 hours for only $5.00, awesome ski hill only 45mins away and alamost any leisure activity you need close to town so no need for long weekends away or holidays abroad for the sun, great campsites all around and low cost etc etc.

Car insurance can balance against low gas costs, Natural gas, Hydro (electric) etc all pretty much even up.

Obviously this is my personal opnion and like anywhere in the world the answer will differ according to life style
