Unfortunately we can't arrange to meet up as we are still in the Uk, but can Iask a few questions about the place.
We visited Toronto in Feb to have a look around (YUK!) We were very disappointed with Ontario, well the bit we looked at anyway, and having posted that on here i've been advised to look at Kamloops.
We were hoping for some hills!sounds mad I know but Ontario is soooo flat! What it the weather like year round? is there much tourism? we were thinking of setting up a holiday lets or maybe run a coffee shop/sandwich bar (hubby's dream!)
Do you know of any good webiste to visit ? and how laong will it take to fly from Toronto (we have booked to fly to Toronto in June and thought we could maybe get a flight to have a look over there)
Sorry for all the questions and nodoubt the bad spelling!!!!
Cheers, Della

Hi Della
Great to hear your looking at Kamloops. I'll give you a 'brief' run down of why we chose here.
We were looking for a quiet, community lifestyle, we wanted to be able to walk down the city centre street and have perfect strangers say "howdie", we wanted a bit of life - skiing, cycling, iceskating, hill walking, rock climbing, hangliding (you want hills - boy will you get hills here) - beautiful scenery, the friendliest people, low cost of living and the most important of all .... great weather!
Kamloops (in our opinion) has it all. If your looking for a hip, happening city, with loads of shopping malls and night life, this place is NOT for you. Kamloops is a bit like going back in time 20 years, like the old 'House of Fraser' shop when it used to be called 'Bins'.
We get all 4 seasons of weather, November to February the temperature ranges between 0 to -12. After experiencing our first Winter it wasn't bad at all. I loved the winter, hardly any rain, mostly blue skies and lots of white stuff to ski on. Right now its just warming up nicely, ranging from 15 to 20 degrees and I'm told by July, it'll be up to late 30s if not more - air con is a must. Yet to experience the fall, but sunny days are the norm here.
Toronto, I'm told is about 7 hours, not many direct flights, which is strange since Kamloops is the 'connecting hub' of the interior.
I think a sandwich bar would be ideal, there's a distinct shortage of good sarnie places, you get sick of Subway after a while.
Check out this website, i think its the best one for Kam
www.tourismkamloops.com
Typically, most things here are about half the price of the UK, except furnature, that's expensive.
I hope that's given you some incite. If you do visit, don't forget to give me a shout!
Best wishes

I would suggest you try contacting Airsier as he has the low down on Kamloops..
however its worth keeping in mind he has a vested interest in promoting Kamloops as a great destination... he's now on the Board of directors of Venture Kamloops
FYI Airsier is a gaelic variation of Archer

After visiting briefly, we found Kamloops to be delightful, accepting that's a city by Canadian standards but a town by UK definition, it has all the salient day to day. month to month needs anyone could require. One can purchase a car, food, get a haircut, etc and there is a substantial range of fine box store emporiums and smaller downtown independent stores. I doubt you'd starve of any neccessities.
It is close enough to the Lower Mainland, Shushwap, Okanagan, Kootenays etc should you need to venture further afield, whether to explore BC or get a fix of the 2.5m approx metropolis that is the GVA. There's plenty of fun to be had around Kamloops, after all it's not known as the centre of events and competitons for nothing.
We found the "down to earth factor" to be very appealing, getting the impression that you don't have to be a 'somebody' to be welcomed in the community. Airseirs reception into the local community proves that point.
There's less summer traffic and associated mayhem that you get in the Okanagan and real estate is far more affordable in Kamloops. Just because people aren't flocking there in droves with bags full of $x'm disposable funds doesn't make it an unnattractive place.
I would seriously investigate Kamloops if you are considering small town, homely, regular, everyday affordable, but withstanding the fact that employment prospects may be limited, but the right profile of startup/takeover business could easily work. Homework would be needed to ensure the business was pitched correctly into the local market. The area has a growing population and real estate price is now rising, reflecting new home builds, development (but not overly ugly blight) and generally an increased amount of local activity.
Rich.

"a fancy Dan all singing all dancing monied-up mover and shaker greasing the wheels of industry and commerce making a huge tax evaded pile, preferably while others suffer or lose money, shiny-suited silver-haired pomade wearing snake-oil selling wheeler dealer golf course deal-making come day go day with an excess of money influence and power"
Thanks to a certain person for pointing this out
I attempted humour, and failed Rich.
