Thumbs up Just Got Back From The Dentists

Just thought i would say, for anyone that is abit worried about the costs involved in going to the dentists. Its not all doom and gloom "Really"
It cost me 2 wks ago $74 for a check up and 4 x-rays, today it has cost $112for a new filling. I had a filling done in the UK before i came to Canada and it cost me £28 on National Health and fell out 2 mths later :curse: hence why i have just had to go here. So yes its cost me more here, but i reckon its probably on par with private costs in the UK, if not slightly cheaper, which is alot better then i was lead to believe before i came. Fortunately OH has got medical insurance payed through his employer and it cover 80% of any dental cost , so thats even better for us as i will only have to pay 20% of cost out of my own pocket Happy days

Is that the cost before reimbursement by your OH's insurance plan? If so, that is amazing -- at least by Calgary's standards.

Yes that is the cost before insurance kicks in. Had to pay it all this time and then claim it back ( i was abit slow handing over the medical card) but next time she said they will do it direct.

My NS dental treatment has been a lot cheaper than the UK too. We have up to 80% dental coverage and do not have to pay up front. The dentist charges us the remainder due after the insurance percentage is deducted

Just imagining trying to have a conversation with a frozen mouth

I know that I will have at least a filling as one has chipped off. Not my favourite place to go but needs must

The thread title reminds me of that joke.

"I just got back from the dentist"
"Oh yes, what happened?"
"He said my teeth are ok but my gums have to come out".

Am I being ripped off? One month ago it cost me $220 for both kids to have a check up, one to have an x-ray and both to have fluoride treatment.

One week later youngest gums where bright red and bleeding, cost me a further $30 for a 30 second visit (I kid you not) to be told it was probably down to her having a temp.

Don't get me wrong, I don't grudge paying the $30 for the sake of reassurance but I think that's just takin' the piss

On Wednesday, I had:
  • Complete oral exam - $118
  • Two radiographs - $27
  • Panoramic radiograph - $52
  • One radiograph - $23

Total of $220 before refund from my insurance company.

(And I'm waiting for an estimate of what it will cost to fix the stuff that needs to be dealt with... *shudders*)
