Post jobs in calgary??

Hey,

Me and my partner are moving to Calgary in November
I Know its a long way off but am just wondering if theres many jobs out there at the moment?
I'm a Bricklayer by trade and know i would have to go through red seal for my qualification, iv'e also been landscape gardening for the last 3 years so have a load of experince in that field.

I really want to move over in November with a job to go to

Is there any web sites worth looking at? and can anyone give me any tips on securing a job?

cheers

Hi there.

I'm no expert in either field so am unable to provide any strong advice. However, if it's any help, we have a friend who is a bricklayer in Calgary (also moved over from the UK) and I know he has concerns in that his employers have laid off quite a few people. I get the impression from what he says that it's not just his company in this position but others too. I'm not trying to put you off but thought I'd just pass on what I've heard.

I also have an acquaintance (someone I talk to when dog walking) who is a landscape gardener. Until recently, she was working for a golf club but decided she didn't want to continue with them and is now working on doing private jobs. She is off to Banff for a week's work, I think, next week (doing a living wall?). She has just done a big flyer hand out and has already got some interest from that.

I know none of the above is any solid advice but, hey, sometimes, anything's a help.

Anyway, if you can get work out here, it's a great place to live. We live just outside Calgary and love it.

All the best and I hope something comes up for you.

November isn't really good for either trade.

Ground is frozen (or at least beginning to freeze) like iron. Temperatures going down to minus 20 or beyond.

November is when brickies go to Mexico for a few months!

There's more jobs near/in Fort McMurray right now.
